Swimmer's Poem After hearing that longed for beep, Into the air I willingly leap. While leaving the block in my start, My throat now contains my heart. Not even thinking about taking in air, Because being last is not to bear. For now, unable to hear a sound, A wall ahead is what I've found. Now a lap seeming not too long, I begin to swim, ever so strong. At last, only meters yet to go, Harder into the water, my body I throw. My fingers touch the wall, I can finally say, And I am happy to look back, at second place in my spray. And only when my lips let forth a victorious moan, Then I know I've set the tone.
