ShaDonna's Dress
Duplicating this dress in human size was definitely the work of the Lord. A miracle!
I didn't have the heart or inclination to begin the dress until after ShaDonna's
passing.
I had no idea what size to make it since I hadn't seen her in months
and I lived hours away. I called her Mother and she said "Just get
a little girl's dress pattern." Although she was 15, she had lost so
much weight. She was very petite anyway.
Well, finding that pattern was easier said then done.
The little girls size would work, but the arm hole has to fit a teen. I
didn't want to do extensive alterations. With the assistance of the
lady at JoAnn's in Roanoke, Virginia we picked a basic pattern.
I found the perfect fabric and accessories at Walmart. I bought white
satin,
pretty white fabric flowers on a stem and a white Asian type frog closure.
They also had a remnant of white lace the perfect size for her cape.
I created the most beautiful burial gown. The collar and sleeves
were trimmed in a pleated satin embelished with faux pearls and lace. I
bordered the cape with lace and put the fabric flowers down each side of
the front. It closed with the frog closure. The tasseled belt
I already had onhand.
This fashion was completed in 5 hours. Just in time for her Granddad to take to D.C. It was beautiful and a perfect fit! That was the miracle part. Actually the whole project was miraculous. Just the way everything came together in such little time.
ShaDonna truly looked like my interpretation of an angel. Praise God!
