[Dawson and his dad drive up the pier where Andie, Jack, Jen, Will, Doug and Buzz are waiting the christening of "True Love" Dawson brings a bottle of champagne with him.]
Joey: (voice over) You ever have one of those days you wish you could live over again?
Andie: Oh, hey look, there's Dawson and his dad.
Mitch: You got the champagne?
Dawson: It's right here. (he almost drops it) Oop! That was almost a disaster. (reaching the gang who is sitting on the rail near 'True Love') Guys. Buzz.
Buzz: Hey Dawson!
Andie: So, where's Joey? I thought she was coming with you?
Dawson: She wanted to stop by the library first and plow through that Watergate history assignment.
Andie: Yeah.
(Pacey and Joey are in a shed near the pier and are having a massive make-out session.)
Joey: Come on, let's go, Pacey. It's your boat we're planning on christening.
Pacey: (lifting Joey up and setting her on a table in front of him) I own a boat?
Joey: We have to stop doing this, it's wrong.
Pacey: (nibbling on Joey's neck) Yes, dead wrong.
Joey: Pacey. Look, we've been in denial all week. I mean, when we're around other people we pretend like nothing's changed and the minute we're alone it turns into this.
Pacey: This what?
Joey: This embarrassing grope fest.
Pacey: Yeah, I guess this is kinda embarrassing, especially for you. You know how much you protested.
Joey: I did not protest.
Pacey: You did, too. (they smooch some more) Joey, wait wait wait wait. We gotta tell him, Jo. We do. We gotta tell him - as soon as possible because the longer we wait, Jo, the worse it gets.
Joey: I know, Pacey. I tried. I've tried plenty of times.
Pacey: Every time I see the guy now, I just...
Joey: You don't have to bother filling in the expletive, okay? I mean this isn't exactly the easiest thing I've ever had to do, Pacey. Telling Dawson that while he wasn't looking, I developed this bizarre, gravitational pull towards his best friend and I can't stop thinking about him or wanting to be near him or wanting to kiss him all the time. (they get some more smoochies on)
Pacey: I'll do it.
Joey: What?
Pacey: I'll tell him.
Joey: No, I can't let you do that, this is my responsibility.
Pacey: Jo, it's not your responsibility. I'm the one who started this, remember? I'm the one who got you into this situation. And frankly, the only way I can save my friendship with Dawson is to be completely honest with him. So I gotta do this. All I need is one day. Just one day.
Joey: One day.
Pacey: Yes, one day. (kissing her forehead)
(After the christening, Pacey and Buzz are waiting for Buzz's mom to show.)
Pacey: No, she's not late, she's an hour late. When people are late, they're like 15 minutes late.
Doug: (walking up) Alright, here's the deal. There's an apologetic, yet some what incoherent message on the machine for you from someone named Nora. Seems she got confused, thought you had him for the day, now she's stuck at work and can't get free till this evening.
Pacey: Speaking of work... You're not on duty today, are you?
Doug: (picking up Buzz and handing him to Pacey) Oh no no no little brother. This juvenile is your responsibility.
Pacey: (handing Buzz back to Dougie) But Doug, I got this one thing I gotta do, man, and it kinda ranks high up there on the importance list. So, I'll just do this one thing, I'll go, I'll do it, I'll come right back, I swear.
Doug: Have you ever noticed how your one little things tend to multiply?
Pacey: Doug, it's just one thing. I'll be right back, I swear. It shouldn’t take me more than...(walking off)
Doug: Pacey!
Pacey: Dougie!
[Gram's House - she is loading her suitcase into the car. Jen is walking with her.]
Grams: I know he's a very respectable young man and we certainly have no reasons to suspect him of ill intentions. But with no one here to chaperone...
Jen: Yeah, you never know what sorta hijinks might ensue.
Grams: This is no laughing matter, Jennifer. I established these rules not because I don't trust you, but because the sexual impulses of a teenage boy...
Jen: Okay, Grams. I think you are going out on a limb here for nothing. I assure you that whatever sexual impulses Henry Parker may throw at me I am perfectly capable of handling.
(Grams gets in the car and drives away. Jen sees Pacey standing in Dawson's front yard looking up at the house. She walks over to join him.)
Jen: Hey Pace.
Pacey: Hey.
Jen: Nobody home?
Pacey: I don't know actually.
Jen: You could knock and find out.
Pacey: I could just walk right in, you know? They never lock it. I've been coming here since I was 5 years old, just walking right through the front door and making myself at home.
Jen: She wants to be with you, Pacey. She does.
Pacey: And you would know this how?
Jen: She told me so this morning.
Pacey: Why am I not happy to hear that right now?
Jen: Cause right now you gotta walk through that front door and tell your best friend that the only girl in the universe he can't live without...
Pacey: ...is the same one that I can't live without. I've had this conversation with him in my head 1,000 times.
Jen: Yeah, how's it go?
Pacey: You know, Dawson saying something along the lines of "via con deos (I KNOW I spelled that wrong), Pace. I had my shot at making her happy and now, why don't you give it a try?"
Jen: It could happen. Just minus the Spanish part.
Pacey: Yeah.
Mitch: (walking out of the house as if to leave) Hey guys. If you're looking for Dawson, you just missed him.
Pacey: Did he say where he was going?
Mitch: Yeah, he said something about the library.
[Capeside Library - Pacey walks in and sees Andie approaching.]
Andie: Pacey.
Pacey: Hi.
Andie: Hi.
Pacey: You're looking happy. Is this just your usual library glow?
Andie: Yeah, well, free books make me giddy.
Pacey: (noticing Will walking up behind Andie) Krudski.
Will: Studying on a Saturday, Witter? This is most unlike you. So, uhh, see you tonight, Andie?
(Andie smiles and nods. Will and Pacey nod bye and Will walks off.)
Pacey: Tonight, huh?
Andie: Yeah, uhh, we were thinking about getting dinner or something.
Pacey: Well, hey, look, a girl's gotta eat, huh?
Andie: So what are you doing here? You're not studying, are you?
Pacey: No, looking for Dawson. You haven't seen him, have you?
Andie: No, haven't seen him.
Pacey: Well, I'll let you get back to your books. See ya later.
Andie: Yeah.
[Dougie's House - Buzz is jumping on the bed. Doug walks into the room wearing yellow rubber gloves you use for cleaning, and holding what's left of his answering machine.]
Doug: Oh, no, Buzz! Listen to me. This, this is not a toy, alright? This is an answering machine. This was my answering machine, do you understand? Buzz, Buzz, where is the tape? It's suppose to be in here.
Pacey: (in a high voice) Dougie, I'm home!
Doug: (to Buzz) Stop bouncing!
Buzz: (jumping off the bed and rushing over to Pacey) Yeah! And I thought you were boring.
Pacey: (handing him a Gameboy Color) See that? Pokemon blue, go to it.
Buzz: (grabbing it and rushing off) Cool!
Doug: Yeah, that's really great. Where the hell have you been? (showing Pacey the answering machine) Alright, look at this, it's ruined.
Pacey: Doug, I'm sorry. Look, me and Joey came to a really important decision...
Doug: Whoa, whoa, whoa... wait. Since when are you and Joey deciding anything?
Pacey: You're gonna like this one cause it turns out you were right. She's into me, man. That's why she got so freaked out when I kissed her.
Doug: Really?
Pacey: Yeah.
Doug: So then you told Dawson?
Pacey: Uhh, no, not exactly. That's what I was trying to do all morning, Doug. Remember the little errand I had to run? But, it just turned into this wild goose chase. I really didn't think it was going to take that long, I'm sorry.
Doug: Look, telling Dawson you kissed Joey in a moment of weakness is a helluva lot different than sneaking around with her behind his back. Don't you think? Look, Pacey, at the end of the day Joey and Dawson are gonna stay friends or whatever it is that they are. And you're gonna end up alone. Alright? No girlfriend, no friend, just utterly and completely alone. Think about it. I was right before, wasn't I?
(Pacey is walking up to Dawson's house. When he gets to the door, Joey busts through the screen and stops him.)
Joey: Hey!
Pacey: Hey! Hey, Jo, what's wrong?
Joey: (they hug) Look, Pacey, we can't do this, okay?
Pacey: What? Can't do what?
Joey: I have to be the one to tell him, okay? (she pulls him out onto the front lawn - they stand close together holding each other's hands) I mean, things are really complicated between me and Dawson. It has nothing to do with you. It's just that, look, it has to come from me or it's going to ruin everything.
Pacey: Okay, okay! That's okay. Just calm down, Jo. It's alright. I'll do whatever you want to do, okay? And you wanna know the God's honest truth? I've been in the process of chickening out the whole way over here.
Joey: Maybe it's a sign, Pacey.
Pacey: A sign of what?
Joey: It's just that for so long, he's been everything to me, Pacey. I mean, this guy's been my family when I haven't had one. And he's the one person in my life that I can always depend on, and this, it's gonna kill him.
Pacey: You never had any intention of telling him, did you? You didn't come over here tonight to tell him. You came here to stop me.
Joey: No, I tried to tell him. I went up there and I tried.
Pacey: Of course you did. And let me guess, you failed, right?
Dawson: (coming out through the screened porch) I thought I heard something out here.
Joey: Dawson, uhh, we were just...
Dawson: Having an argument. Obviously. What about?
Pacey: Us, Dawson. We were arguing about us. Me and Joey. There's an us here now.
(The scene cuts back to the opening scene when Mitch and Dawson pull up to the pier.)
Joey: (voice over) You ever have one of those days you wish you could live all over again?
Andie: Oh, hey look, there's Dawson and his dad.
Mitch: You got the champagne?
Dawson: It's right here. (almost dropping the champagne bottle) Oop! That was almost a disaster. (reaching the group) Guys. Buzz.
Buzz: Hey Dawson!
Andie: So, where's Joey? I thought she was coming with you?
Dawson: She wanted to stop by the library first and plow through that Watergate history assignment.
Andie: Yeah.
Jen: Oh, speaking of which... I finally got through "All the President's Men". So, if you'd like your tape back I can return it now.
Dawson: Okay. I'll come by and pick it up. What did you think?
Jen: Incredible movie. But Henry didn't feel there was enough cute teenage girls.
Jack: (seeing Pacey walk out of the "make-out" shed) Hey, don't look now. But I think that's the captain of this vessel.
Andie: Well then I guess we can get started.
Dawson: (referring the champagne) Not without this we can't. (goes over to Pacey) As promised.
Pacey: Eh, oh! Champagne. Thank you. But you know, sparkling apple cider would have probably worked just as well.
(Joey comes from behind the shed and walks over to the group. She sits next to Jen and the two share a look.)
Jen: Hey.
Joey: Hey.
(After the christening, Jen is on a payphone with Henry while Joey waits.)
Jen: Yeah, if you come by around 2 o'clock, my Grams will be gone, alright? (pause, smiling as if Henry told her something naughty) No, no, alright, I'm taking Joey to the library, I'm gonna give Grams her car back and I will see you later. (hangs up the phone)
Joey: Thanks a lot for the ride, Jen.
Jen: Oh, no, don't worry about it.
Joey: I was suppose to go by this morning and I got kinda busy...
Jen: No, you don't have to explain. Unless of course it's something you want to explain.
Joey: (walking along the street) Recently you and I spoke about unrequited feelings that a certain someone...
Jen: Namely Pacey...
Joey: Namely Pacey... may have had. And all those unrequited feelings professed them self in the form of a kiss. They are not unrequited that is... They are actually, very much requited...
Jen: Okay, so you kissed back a certain someone, namely Pacey... and you would like for that to continue?
Joey: I think so, I mean.... Yes. But the thing is, my feelings have been clouded by my fear of what Dawson will do or say once he knows.
Jen: Joey, if you're asking me whether or not you should tell Dawson, the answer is a big, fat yes.
Joey: We're going to tell him. Pacey is going to do it today. He wanted to... I tried. I did, I tried plenty of times. It's just that when we tell him, Dawson gets hurt. And if I tell Pacey not to tell him...
Jen: Pacey's gonna get hurt.
Joey: Yeah. So, whatever I do, I'm the villain. The girl's always the villain, right? In stories like these she's always some wicked, conniving whore who manipulates her way between two brothers or two best friends...
Jen: Okay, Joey, keep in mind that most of those stories have been written by men.
Joey: I really wish I was more like you...
Jen: Oh yeah...
Joey: You feel things and you act on them. Pacey does the same thing. Fearless.
Jen: Alright, I'll let you in on a little secret about the so called fearless. We're not as tough as you think we are. And Pacey's heart can break just as easily as the next guy. Maybe even more so considering it was already broken when it got here.
(Joey is at the library in an upper room. She looks out through a window into the main part of the library and sees Andie and Pacey talking from before. Joey goes to a computer and is working when Andie approaches her.)
Andie: (standing behind Joey and looking at the screen over her shoulder) Hey, lady. 20 minutes time limit on these things, right?
Joey: (continuing to work) Sorry, Andie, I was just finishing up the Watergate. How about you?
Andie: No where near done. But, I'm taking off anyway. I have a date tonight.
Joey: Will?
Andie: Yeah. I like him, I do. He's smart, way smart. And he has no idea how cute he is which is key cause God save us from the ones who do.
Joey: So what's the problem?
Andie: He's not Pacey. (Joey's face clouds over) Pathetic, I know! And I thought I was over him, I really, really did. But then I bumped into him a little while ago and... I mean, technically we're friends, right? And that's how I played it. But it's like when I saw him, every irritating-slash-adorable thing he ever did flashed before my eyes. (Joey looks around uncertainly) And that's the true, test, right? I mean, you just bump into somebody and if you're not over there, boom - flood gates.
(Joey is walking through town when she bumps into Dawson. She is beyond uncomfortable.)
Dawson: Hey!
Joey: Dawson!
Dawson: Hurry much?
Joey: I must have lost track of time. I was suppose to meet Bessie at home by now...
Dawson: I wanted to... I was gonna call you.. Do you wanna do movie night tonight? I was gonna help my mom with something but I can pick up a movie on the way home.
Joey: (talking really fast) You know, I really don't think I'll be able to. Maybe some other time, okay? (going to leave)
Dawson: Are you alright?
Joey: (turning back to face Dawson) Yeah, oh yeah, I'm fine. I just, I have to, uhhh... I have to uhhh... you know, uhhh, I have to...
Dawson: Go?
Joey: Yeah, I gotta go. Bye. (spinning around real quick and going to leave)
Dawson: I'll see you.
Joey: Bye.
(Joey is at a pay phone leaving a message on Pacey and Dougie's machine.)
Joey: Pacey? Doug? Okay, you're not there... Umm... Look, Pacey... Don't do what you said you were going to do today, okay? Dawson's not even home, I just kinda ran into him and I think you should wait. I think you should wait until you talk to me. I really think that I should be the one to tell him. Okay.
(It's night time now. Joey is running up the dock to Dawson's house. She climbs the ladder and enters his room. Dawson is watching a movie on TV.)
Joey: Hey.
Dawson: You changed your mind.
Joey: Kinda. Umm... I wanted to talk to you, Dawson. Pacey hasn’t been here, has he?
Dawson: No, is he suppose to be?
Joey: No... Umm... No. What are you watching?
Dawson: The Last Picture Show.
Joey: Isn't that the movie we saw...
Dawson: On our first date, yes it is. Yup, yes it is. It wasn't exactly a successful evening, was it? At least not movie wise.
Joey: What do you mean?
Dawson: Well, we never got to see the end.
Joey: (sitting on the edge of the bed, her face half turned away from Dawson) So, uhhh, how does it end, Dawson?
Dawson: Well, it's three friends that grew up together... Jeff Bridges is in love with Cybil Shepard and he dumps him and breaks his heart and he's devastated. And she's not. She just kinda moves on to the other guy. And, uhh, it destroys their friendship. And that's pretty much how it ends. Everyone alone, everyone hating each other. It's really depressing, actually, I don't know why I'm watching it. So what did you want to talk about?
Joey: (standing up and avoiding his glance - it's obviously she's lying) You know, actually, I just remembered that I promised Bessie that I would help watch Alexander tonight and she's probably waiting for me, so umm... (already out the window) bye.
(Joey climbs down the ladder and as she leaves Dawson's house, she notices Pacey walking up the front steps an onto Dawson's porch. Joey runs after him and stops him outside the door.)
Joey: Hey!
Pacey: Hey! Hey, Jo, what's wrong?
Joey: (they hug) Look, Pacey, we can't do this, okay?
Pacey: What? Can't do what?
Joey: I have to be the one to tell him, okay? (she pulls him out into the yard) I mean, things are really complicated between me and Dawson. It has nothing to do with you. It's just that, look, it has to come from me or it's going to ruin everything.
(Dawson hears voices outside and moves to his window. He watches Pacey and Joey from above.)
Joey: No, that's not true. I tried to tell him. I went up there and I tried.
Pacey: Of course you did. And let me guess, you failed, right?
Dawson: (coming out of the screened porch) I thought I heard something out here.
Joey: Dawson, uhh, we were just...
Dawson: Having an argument. Obviously. What about?
Pacey: Us, Dawson. We were arguing about us. Me and Joey. There's an us here now. I'm really sorry, man, we didn't want to tell you this way.
Dawson: You didn't tell me.
Joey: You know, don't you?
Dawson: I know.
(The scene cuts to the beginning of the episode again. Mitch and Dawson pull up to the pier where 'True Love' is docked.)
Joey: (voice over) You ever have one of those days you wish you could live over again?
Andie: Oh, hey look, there's Dawson and his dad.
Mitch: You got the champagne?
Dawson: It's right here. (almost dropping the champagne) Oop! That was almost a disaster. (reaching the gang) Guys. Buzz.
Buzz: Hey Dawson!
Andie: So, where's Joey? I thought she was coming with you?
Dawson: She wanted to stop by the library first and plow through that Watergate history assignment.
Andie: Yeah.
(Pacey and Joey are in the finishing stages of their make-out session in the shed.)
Pacey: Agreed? (Joey's eyes are closed and she leans in for another kiss. Pacey complies.)
Joey: Agreed. (pause) Pacey, you first. I'll catch up with you first.
(Joey looks at him and moves in for more smoochies - I'm so jealous! They finally pull apart from each other and compose themselves. Pacey walks out of the shed and goes to join the gang.)
Jack: Hey, don't look now. But I think that's the captain of this vessel.
Andie: Well then I guess we can get started.
Dawson: (referring the champagne) Not without this we can't. (goes over to Pacey) As promised.
Pacey: Eh, oh! Champagne. Thank you. But you know, sparkling apple cider would have probably worked just as well, Dawson.
Dawson: (Joey walks out from behind the shed and joins the group) Nah, for this occasion, this is a monumental accomplishment. You took something that was destined for the scrap heap and managed to turn it, not only into a thing of beauty but also a viable mode of transportation.
Jack: Witter! Come on, man. Let's get this show on the road.
Pacey: Be right there, man! Look, Dawson, you gonna be able to hang around after this?
Dawson: Yeah, for a little bit. I've gotta work later.
Pacey: (going over to the group as Dawson follows) Uhh, alright, look... I know you guys are all on tight schedules so I'm gonna keep this thing short, it's a beautiful day and all. Umm, first and foremost I should probably thank Hurricane Chris for enabling a poor schlub like me to actually be able to afford a boat like this. But secondly and more importantly, I'd like to thank everybody who pitched in. Everybody who scraped and sanded and polished and painted and otherwise helped out to get this boat back in the water. (turning around to look at Buzz who is actually sitting on the boat) Some did this more willingly than others, so uhh, without further ado, I christen for you, "True Love" (Pacey smashes the bottle of champagne against the boat)
All: (cheers and whistles and claps)
Jack: Way to go, Pace!
(Dawson is at the library going through the stacks when he sees Will. Will is looking around as if he's lost.)
Dawson: Will.
Will: Dawson, hey... Look, I was wondering if you could help me. I'm looking for some secret room Andie says is ideal for studying.
Dawson: Umm, she probably means the Genealogy room. It's usually pretty dead in there.
Will: Cool, I guess I'll try that.
Dawson: Alright.
Will: Good luck. (going to leave and then coming back) Hey Dawson, what did you and Joey do on your first date?
Dawson: Excuse me?
Will: Uhh, you know, if you don't want to tell me...
Dawson: No, it's fine... I'm just kinda surprised, it's a left field question.
Will: Uhh, not if you just asked someone out...
Dawson: Andie?
Will: Yeah... So, what should I do?
Dawson: Umm, well, Joey and I went to the movies which is a really terrible idea because you can't talk to the person, you can't even really look at them.
Will: So, where would you suggest?
Dawson: Umm, there's always the creek. With the night sky over head, boat (missed word) in the water. It's one of those things that's achieved cliché status but actually is romantic.
Will: Uhh, where would I get a boat?
Dawson: My house.
Will: You sure?
Dawson: Yeah, absolutely. You know where it is, just come by and get it.
Will: Great. So, uhh, what are you up to tonight?
Dawson: I think I'm gonna try to hook up with an old friend.
(Henry and Jen are on her porch. Jen sits in a wicker chair writing or sketching in a book. Henry stands against the door.)
Henry: So I'm really not allowed in the house?
Jen: Sorry, according to Grams you are public enemy number 1.
Henry: So what if I have to use the bathroom? Or the phone? (moves to sit with Jen) What if you start to choke and I need to call 911?
Jen: Well, then we'll just have to consult an etiquette book from 1955. (he goes to kiss her) What are you doing?
Henry: You know, stuff...
Jen: (seeing Dawson approaching) You know, Henry, why don't you go inside?
Henry: You just told me I couldn't.
Jen: Well, I changed my mind. (she pushes Henry inside the house. to Dawson) Hey.
Dawson: (Dawson has already opened the screen door, but seeing Jen push Henry inside, he goes to leave) Sorry, I can come back at a better time.
Jen: Oh, God, no, no... I was expecting for you to come by anyway.(Dawson enters the porch) How you doing, you alright?
Dawson: I'm fine.
Jen: You know if you wanna just come inside and hang out with Henry and I we could use a chaperone.
Dawson: As tempting as that sounds, I think I'm just gonna watch a movie. Think of better days.
Jen: I know this must seem like the hardest thing in the world right now, but in the long run it's better that Pacey told you.
Dawson: Told me what? Told me what?
Jen: (realizing that Dawson doesn't know) Nothing.
Dawson: If it's nothing, than why are you so concerned about me?
Jen: (looking away) No, I wasn't concerned...
Dawson: Yes you were, you were concerned, you were concerned because you assumed Pacey told me something. Told me what, Jen? (pause) Okay, the fact that you're unwilling to answer my question speaks volumes. (pause) It has to do with Joey, doesn't it? (she looks at him with a sad look on her face) It does, doesn't it?
Jen: God, I'm so sorry.
Dawson: You've known about this?
Jen: Dawson, it wasn't my place to say anything, alright? I didn't want to interfere. I wanted to protect you. (Dawson rushes off the porch) Dawson, wait, stop, say something! Please!
Dawson: I'm fine! Alright, I'm fine!
Jen: No...
Dawson: I'm fine!
Jen: No, you are not fine. Dawson, what can I say, what can I do?
Dawson: You can do me the same favor that you did them. You can keep this to yourself. Thanks for protecting me. (Dawson walks home. He throws himself on his bed. It's now night time and the scene where Joey walks in to find Dawson watching The Last Picture Show.)
(Joey is running up the dock to Dawson's house. She climbs the ladder and enters his room. Dawson is watching a movie on TV.)
Joey: Hey.
Dawson: You changed your mind.
Joey: Kinda. Umm... I wanted to talk to you, Dawson. Pacey's not here, is he?
Dawson: No, is he suppose to be?
Joey: No... Umm... No. What are you watching anyway?
Dawson: The Last Picture Show.
Joey: Isn't that the movie we saw...
Dawson: On our first date.
Jeff Bridges is in love with Cybil Shepard and he dumps him and breaks his heart and he's completely devastated. And she's not. She just kinda moves on to the other guy. And, uhh, it destroys their friendship. It was never the same after that. And that's pretty much how it ends. Everyone alone, everyone hating each other. It's pretty depressing, actually, I don't know why I'm watching it. So what was it you wanted to talk about?
Joey: (standing and avoiding his glance) You know, actually, I just remembered that I promised Bessie that I would help watch Alexander tonight and she's probably waiting for me, so umm... (already out the window and on the roof) bye.
(Dawson looks upset for awhile. Cut to him opening his front door and watching Pacey and Joey. They are standing pretty close to each other and she is holding his hands in front of her.)
Pacey: You didn't come over here tonight to tell him. You came here to stop me.
Joey: No, I tried to tell him. I went up there and I tried.
Pacey: Of course you did. And let me guess, you failed, right?
(Dawson walks outside and joins them. It cuts half way into the scene.)
Pacey: I'm really sorry, man, we didn't want to tell you this way.
Dawson: You didn't tell me.
Joey: You know, don't you?
Dawson: (only looking at Joey) Yeah, I know. So where you planning on telling me or was it just gonna be a secret from me?
Joey: It's not like that.
Dawson: Then how was it, Joey, cause Jen was a little short on details.
Joey: She told you?
Dawson: Well, she thought I knew. I had to be pretty freaking stupid not to know, right, that the two people I trusted most in the world was lying to me? So are you, bored, confused or just malicious?
Pacey: Hey, look, I started this thing, okay? (Dawson finally looks at Pacey) If you're gonna get angry at somebody, you get angry at me.
Dawson: I don't think you're in any position to talk about what's fair. You were my best friend.
Pacey: I still am.
Dawson: I find that a little hard to process right now.
Pacey: It's the truth, Dawson.
Dawson: So I guess it's safe to assume that friendship doesn't come above sex to you as a personal priority.
Pacey: This has nothing to do with sex.
Dawson: Oh, what are you, in love, is that what this is? (Pacey looks at Joey) Don't look at her, alright? You know what, Pacey, I feel sorry for you. Because when all this is over you're really gonna need your friends and you're not gonna have any. You are not gonna have a single one.
Andie: (walking up with Will) Hey guys, what's going on?
Dawson: Why don't you ask Pacey? Ask him how long he and Joey have been sneaking around behind my back. Or better yet, as Joey how long she's been lying to me and to you. Go ahead, ask them, cause I can't stand to look at them.
(It's back to Dawson just about to leave Jen's house after she told him about Pacey and Joey.)
Jen: Dawson, wait, stop, say something! Please!
Dawson: I'm fine! Alright, I'm fine!
Jen: No...
Dawson: I'm fine!
Jen: No, you are not fine. Dawson, what can I say, what can I do?
Dawson: The can do me the same favor that you did them. You can keep this to yourself. Thanks for protecting me. (Dawson walks home. Henry comes out and joins Jen on the porch.)
Henry: So, where were we?
Jen: I just did the most awful thing.
Henry: It couldn't have been that awful.
Jen: No, believe me, it was. I... I totally screwed up. I accidentally told Dawson something he wasn't suppose to know, and really hurt his feelings in the process.
Henry: But you didn't mean to do it.
Jen: Yeah, but it's still my fault. I'm the one who messed up... (Henry goes to kiss Jen. She pushes him away.) I'm not sure what it is you're doing right now but it's not helping matters.
Henry: It's cause you're not giving it a chance. (goes to kiss her again)
Jen: I mean it.
Henry: I'm just trying to make you feel better.
Jen: No, you're not, you're trying to make yourself feel better.
Henry: What did I do that was so terrible?
Jen: Don't you even want to know what just happened?
Henry: Maybe I don't. Maybe for once I want to put us before any little mini-drama you and your friends have worked up this week.
Jen: Okay, you know, why don't you leave? (Henry stares at her) I'm not kidding, leave.
Henry: Now you're being irrational.
Jen: No, just irritated. Irrational is when I get violent. Which is gonna happen in two seconds if you don't get your horny freshman ass out of here.
(Henry leaves. Night time. Will and Andie are in Dawson's boat out in the creek.)
Will: A little much, maybe? For a first date?
Andie: No, no, I mean, it's beautiful.
Will: Come on, admit it. I did kinda go...
Andie: Overboard? (laughs)
Will: Yeah. Plan A. Pretend we're not on a boat.
Andie: Okay, ummm... You're rowing us across a body of water, what do you want me to pretend, that this is something from Greek mythology?
Will: Orpheus and Uridisee. Do you know that one? (Andie shakes her head no) They were a couple of kids totally in love, but then she died. Snake bite. He couldn't deal so being the ancient world's most kick ass musician, he goes to the underworld, located the proper authorities, and played for them. All about Uridisee. About how he had to have her back.
Andie: And? And what happened?
Will: It worked. But there was one condition. He wasn't allow to look at her until they went back into the real world. So they sat out and they were just about to make it, and they looked back.
Andie: So, she died all over again?
Will: He went to grab for her and all he got was air.
(Andie and Will are coming across Joey, Pacey and Dawson arguing outside the Leery house.)
Andie: (walking up with Will) Hey guys, what's going on?
Dawson: Why don't you ask Pacey? Ask him how long he and Joey have been sneaking around behind my back. Or better yet ask Joey how long she's been lying to me and to you. Go ahead, ask them, cause I can't stand to look at them. (Joey follows Dawson into the house)
Andie: So, is this true, Pacey?
Pacey: (he looks around shocked as to what just happened. Whispering) Yes.
Andie: I don't know what to say.
Pacey: Me neither.
Andie: You must really, uhh... you know, to give up your friendship with Dawson, to give up everything. How could you be so stupid, Pacey? You know you're gonna get hurt. (Pacey finally looks at Andie. He looks extremely sad.) She is never gonna love you like she loves him, okay? He is her first love, Pacey. Her first love. (Andie walks off. Will just stands there not know what to do. Pacey nods for him to follow Andie and Will does so. Joey rushes into Dawson's room behind him.)
Joey: I didn't intend for this to happen, Dawson...
Dawson: Joey, what you intended does not provide me any solace. What, do you love him? Do you just want to sleep with him?
Joey: No, why would you say that?
Dawson: Cause it's what he's gonna expect.
Joey: We're not together, Dawson, and we haven't been for a long time. The whole year has gone by....
Dawson: Is this punishment, are you punishing me?
Joey: No, I'm not punishing you.
Dawson: Cause I didn't want to get back together with you?
Joey: Why would you think that?
Dawson: Why, why? Cause you keep on saying that you want to go find yourself... Is this what you've been looking for the whole time? Is Pacey what you've been looking for?
Joey: No!
Dawson: Than explain it to me, Jo. Explain to me how two people who can't even stand to be in the same room with each other ended up at my window arguing about the future of their relationship.
Joey: I can't, okay? I can't explain what just happened. Everything between you and me is so complicated.
Dawson: If things between us are complicated it's because you made them that way, okay? You think that everything that was wrong when you were with is gonna magically get better when you're with him?
Joey: I don't know, Dawson. I don't know, okay? I just know that I need him.
Dawson: Need him like you need me? (Joey looks shocked. After a pause) Jo, it's a simple question. Do you need him like you need me?
Joey: You can't do that, Dawson. You can't. Those two things have nothing to do with each other and you know that the way I feel about him is completely separate from the way that I feel about you and our friendship.
Dawson: Friendship... right now we don't have a friendship. We don't have a friendship!! As of this moment we do not have a friendship.
Joey: What?! That is not fair.
Dawson: You can't have both of us! You can't have him as your boyfriend and me as your consolation prize. You're gonna have to make a choice. And I'll tell you right now, if you choose him I'm not gonna be there to pick up the pieces when it all falls apart. This ruins everything! There's no going back.
Joey: (crying) Okay. What do you want me to say? Tell me what you want me to say, what do you wanna hear?
Dawson: I don't want you to say anything. I want you to leave.
(Dawson walks out of his room. Joey climbs out the window. The next scene Dawson is back in his room and Jen is at his bedroom door.)
Jen: (knocking) Helluva day, huh?
Dawson: I have no desire to rewind and live it again if that's what you mean.
Jen: You shouldn't be alone right now.
Dawson: Why, I am alone. I might as well get used to it.
Jen: You're not alone, Dawson, don't ever think that.
Dawson: Jen, why didn't you tell me?
Jen: Dawson, if two people are on a crash course for each other and you throw yourself in between, it's only gonna bring them all the much closer.
Dawson: So what am I suppose to do now? Am I suppose to accept this? Am I suppose to wake up tomorrow like nothing's changed?
Jen: (sitting next to Dawson) You just have to let things run their course. And you have to let her decide what it is that she wants.
Dawson: I can't let her go.
Jen: Well what else can you do?
Dawson: Fight. You can fight for what you want.
(Joey goes out to the pier where Pacey's boat is at. Pacey is sitting on the rail in front of his boat.)
Joey: You ever have one of those days you wish you could live all over again?
Pacey: Yup. You?
Joey: Yeah.
Pacey: So what would you have done differently?
Joey: I don't know. Everything. (Pacey looks down sadly) Nothing at all. We'd still end up right back here. And I don't think I know where here is.
Pacey: Here is right where we started.
Joey: (about the boat) Well she looks beautiful in the water.
Pacey: This morning was just a formality. We still don't know if she's seaworthy.
Joey: She looks pretty solid.
Pacey: I don't know. She hasn't seen any stormy weather yet.
Joey: Pacey...
Pacey: It's over, isn't it?
Joey: It has to be.
Pacey: You should be the one to go first this time.
(Joey begins to walk away. A tear gently rolls down Pacey's cheek as he watches her go. Joey turns around to look back at Pacey, but he's gone.)
