A. Data Collection and
Management - 35% 1. Works as a member of a project team to plan, develop, implement and establish procedures for management of project data. 2. Collects, compiles, and analyzes health, demographic and other data using statistical programs for use in report and research publications. 3. Applies quality assurance procedures to insure completeness and accuracy of data derived from a variety of sources. These comprise more than 14,000 records from each source. 4. Investigates and initiates corrective action when information from physicians is missing or erroneous. 5. Researches various topics including hepatitis, drugs for HIV and associated conditions, and the latest developments in HIV immunology, for use in patient and physician education and research design and data analysis. Uses library catalogues and the Internet, among others, to access the latest information. B. Coordination - 35% 1. Provides direction and assistance to patients, physicians and their staff, AIDS Service Organizations and laboratory representatives to coordinate collection of demographic, clinical, and immunologic data. 2. Serves as a liaison between HMMSS and the Community Advisory Board and relays community input to Program Specialist V. 3. Reviews complex medical criteria to coordinate entry of HMMSS patients into AIDS Clinical Trial Unit. 4. Oversees monthly distribution of documents to patients and physicians. C. Public Contact - 10% 1. Maintain current avenues of communication with client population. 2. Develop new means of providing the anonymous clients with information about treatments, the program, and services available to persons with HIV. 3. Helps develop strategies to reach potential clients. 4. Writes, edits and distributes an HMMSS quarterly newsletter. D. Miscellaneous - 20% 1. Maintains a bank of stored patient serum samples and associated database for use in future epidemiological research projects. This duty involves entering data from sample invoices into a serum database, verifying same sequence and date information in the Lab database, and placing the samples in specific box positions for easy retrieval. 2. Provides support and training on all information technology assets of the program. This includes planning, purchasing, and implementing new IT systems for the program. 3. Provides assistance to the director in organizing mail-outs, reproducing articles for patient and physician education, completing reports, writing letters, data analysis, and other activities as assigned. 4. Provides back-up for the Program Specialist IV. These duties include processing patient applications, inventorying drugs, assisting patients, physicians and pharmacies by telephone, and ordering drugs. |
