THIS PICTURE IS the very first graduating class at Herscher High School, in 1904. But this picture is colorized, one of a dozen colorized pictures of old Herscher that are in the 2007 calendar, prepared by the Herscher Area Historical Society and presented by the State Bank of Herscher. -------A BOOK ON THE 100-year history of Herscher High School was written and published in 2001 by Jim Ridings. The book is a large 9x12-inch size with 204 pages and a hardback color cover. The book features many old photographs from throughout the 100-year history of the school. Also featured are biographical portraits of 40 individuals, including Kenneth Seebach, Thelma Webber, Dale Hopper, Clifford West, Scott Meents, Rich Jensen, Emory Bauer, Erna Moehl, Harry Ryan, David Haebich, Bert Smith, Ron Oloffson, Roy Van Meter, Eldon Chapman, Al Wolles, Whitey Overright, Marwood and Clair Hendrix, Russell Mau, Brian Noffke, Edna Christensen, Mary Wesemann, Maurice Leiser, Erin Anderson, John Wakey, Lorraine Boness, Lee Ellen Palan, and more! There also is a list of all graduates of HHS from 1904 to 2001. Records and statistics of Tiger sports teams are in the book, including the 1981-82 basketball team, 1988 football team, and all the great State Champion teams and State Champion individuals. Listed is The All-Oloffson Team, the best players from Ron Oloffson’s 15 years as head basketball coach. There also are lists of “dream teams” of boys and girls track, from coaches Scott Stephens and Brian Noffke. A history of the fabulous HHS Music Department is detailed, including all the State Championships, with band directors and drum majors listed. Also: Charts of principals, Winter Ball and Prom kings and queens, Homecoming queens, class presidents, student council presidents, yearbook editors, FFA presidents and State Farmer Degrees. Former principal David Haebich contributed a special essay of reminiscences. HHS students who gave their lives in World War II are memorialized. The senior classes from 1927 to 1950 are pictured, along with many students from all other years. Get your copy while it is still available!
