JAY Z TO OPEN UPSCALE SPORTS BAR/LOUNGE
40/40 CLUB TO OPEN JUNE 18th

NEW YORK (June 2003) - The 40/40 CLUB, an all American sports bar and
lounge owned by hip hop mogul JAY-Z and partners Desiree Gonzalez and
Juan Perez, (6 West 25th Street between 6th Avenue and Broadway) will
open its doors June 18th. Created by the three longtime friends, 40/40
is 8,000 square feet of pure sports and entertainment in an opulent
lounge setting, providing a unique experience not found elsewhere in New
York City.

"I love sports and wanted to create an environment that is conducive to
match my lifestyle, while watching the games at the same time, " said
Jay-Z.

The $4 million multi-level space includes a 24' X 8' slate bar, a
16-foot wide staircase furnished with sleek seating on the steps, 15 LCD
TV's, 8 plasmas (three 60" plasmas), four 12' X 12' two-sided big screen
TV's, a premium cigar room and two private VIP rooms. The two VIP
rooms, the "Remy Lounge," appropriately named after Remy Martin, Jay's
cognac of choice, and "Jay's Room" (24' X 16' each), are fully equipped
with their own personal entertainment centers, 60" plasma TV's, Italian
leather wrap-around couches, X-Box, Play Station II, all controlled by
their own touch-screen remotes. Each room can hold up to 50 people for
private parties and events. The cigar room, sponsored by Cohiba, is
state of the art and complies with all New York State smoking laws. The
room will feature exclusive cigar pieces on display including limited
edition lighters, cigar cutters and cigar pieces made exclusively for
Cohiba.

The 40/40 Club is named after one of baseball's most prestigious
plateaus. A benchmark for power and speed, The 40/40 Club denotes
players who hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in one season -- only
Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Jose Canseco (1988) can
call The 40/40 Club home. The three jerseys of these men grace an area
of the lounge to honor their great accomplishment.

"When we were thinking of a name, we wanted something exclusive -- the
40/40 Club in baseball is as exclusive as it gets," said Jay-Z.

The decor of 40/40 is a mix of memorabilia from this country's greatest
games coupled with Manhattan sophistication. Seven chairs suspended
from the ceiling transcend guests from a sports bar to a lavish lounge
in a matter of seconds. Lush purples and charcoal glazing adorn the
walls while rich slate, imported from South America make up the
flooring, bars and tabletops. The 16 ft. wide steel stairs and
furniture were all produced in Marcy Place, Jay-Z's childhood
neighborhood. 40/40 is accented by over 300 pillows that were designed
by owner Juan Perez's childhood friend's mother and handcrafted in her
home in Washington Heights.

Jerseys given by various famous players who wear the number 40 hang from
all points of the lounge along with other famous jerseys -- such as
Michael Jordan's number 23 and Lawrence Taylor's number 56.
"Memorabilia Hallway" connects the main floor to the private rooms and
houses game used jerseys, balls, bats and other game used equipment.

"We tried to create a place that would be favorable to both men and
women and we think we have found it with the combination of sports and
an upscale hip lounge," said owner Desiree Gonzalez.

Consulting Executive Chef Cynthia Sestito and Executive Chef Jonathan
Leff created a menu that is sure to please both the sports fan and the
casual diner. Guests will be enticed by the Latin-Soul Lounge Food, with
menu selections including Caribbean Conch Fritters, Cuban Cheese Pops,
Harlem Wings, an assortment of mini tacos and pressed sandwiches.

The 40/40 Club is open five days a week from 4:00PM - 4:00 AM and on
Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM - 4:00AM. All major credit cards
accepted.

Roc-A-Fella CEO Damon Dash & Roc-A-Fella/Roc Music Vice President Kenny

Roc Music label focusing on R&B, alternative, pop and rock music.

hip-hop. Roc-A-Fella Records is known as a rap brand, and we want to
establish Roc Music as it's own brand," says Burns of the new division.
"Being a party promoter for years, I felt the best way to break these
new artists and brand this new division of the Roc-A-Fella empire was to
go out to the hottest cities in the country and personally host these
exclusive events," explains Burns.

JAY-Z's S. CARTER SETS REEBOK SALES RECORD

Jay-Z's signature Reebok tennis shoe sold out in only a few hours over
the weekend -- making it the fastest-selling shoe in Reebok's history.
While exact sales numbers were not officially released, sources said
approximately 10,000 pairs of the white sneaker were sold at 95 dollars
a pair. Additionally, the first 10,000 pairs included a CD sampler
featuring some unreleased remixes and freestyles. The first-day sales of
Jay-Z's S. Carter Collection sneaker also make the rap star the first

W.C. Stages Ghetto Olympics for 'The Streets'

From Launch.com. W.C. taped the video for "The Streets," the first single from his second solo album, Monday (August 12) at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In the video, W.C. and director Chris Robinson give their take on the Olympics.

W.C. explained the concept of the video to LAUNCH. "They always have the Olympics and everything, but ain't no categories that, you know, I could ever really just get into. So you know, I think it's just about time for us to form our own. In this video right here, we got the ghetto Olympics going down. We got the Kool-Aid tasting contest. We got the low rider contest. We got the dice game going on. You know, instead of hitting hurdles, we hitting fences. We just gon' do it ghetto style. But it's all out of love, and we're not making fun of anything. We just proud of being from the streets."

Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg, who are featured on the song, also appear in the video. Ice Cube and DJ Pooh make cameo appearances. And a number of other hip-hop notables stopped by to give W.C. support, including Arch Bishop Don Magic Juan, CJ Mac, Kam, Soopafly, Darlene, Lil' Ice T, and W.C.'s new artist Dr. Stank.

"The Streets," produced by Scott Storch, is Number 86 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The song appears on W.C.'s album, Ghetto Heisman, due out on October 22 on Def Jam Records.

DMX Working on "Cradle To The Grave" Movie

From MTV.com. DMX said he took a different approach while filming his latest movie, "Cradle 2 the Grave" he didn't let anybody whip his butt.

In last year's "Exit Wounds," Steven Seagal "was kind of finishing me," X said, "but it's not even like that [this time]. I be f---ing n---as up and everything in this movie. Everybody else gets their ass kicked."

Everybody except for his co-star Jet Li. The two briefly face-off onscreen before teaming up in the picture, which hits theaters in March.

"Quick fight," X nonchalantly explained of their fight sequence. "He hit me a couple, I hit him a couple of times. You ain't gonna be whoopin' my ass now. It ain't that serious."

Despite X's growls, the Yonkers bone crusher said he's becoming more serious about honing his thespian and choreographed pugilist skills.

"I'm the jewel thief," X said of his character in "Cradle 2 the Grave." "I steal something that's not quite jewelry. It looks like diamonds, but it turns out to be plutonium. So it's like a lot of international smuggling sh--. They kidnap my daughter.

"I personally think I did a lot better in the fight scenes. I got more into it. When sh-- is given to you mad easily, you're like, 'F--- it, I got it easy. I'm'a just do whatever these n---as see me doing.' I realized the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. If I can look good half-ass trying, imagine what it would look like if I put my all into it. If I do this sh-- for real.

"Ain't no more half-stepping with it," he continued. "No more bullsh--in' with it. Everything depends on how we look at it. [I] look at it like, 'This is a job, and the better I perform, the more work I get, the more money I get."

The dog is steadily climbing up to that A-list $20 million price range. He's almost halfway there, thanks to the lucrative world of motion pictures.

"I can sell 5 million albums and only get a half a million dollars. One movie, I'm up to like $8 million. It's less headaches, and they actually treat you with respect in the film industry. In the music industry, you're just another n---a who can rap or just another n---a who can sing. That's how they treat you, that's how they dispose of you. 'Oh, we got another one here. Forget about him, we got another one just like him.' They always got another one just like you."

Much to his chagrin, X said the producers of the long-talked-about "Lazarus," which was supposed to be the latest installment on the "Crow" franchise, echoed those sentiments. But when they tried to pair him with another multiplatinum hip-hop star turned actor, he backed out of the part.

"You know what it was? They wanted to do it where there's two Crows," he said. "They wanted Eminen to be the other Crow. I'm like, 'C'mon, man. You're not breaking this guy off my back. [Let Em] get his own movie first.' It's bad enough I'm a rap artist getting into acting — you gonna make it worse? It was his first joint. Don't do me like that. Then, [what if we find out] he can't act and I'm all f---ed up on some B-movie sh--?"

So if you don't see eye-to-eye with people producing your films, what do you do? Produce your own films. The $8 million man said he's developing a script through his own Bloodline Films.

"Under my film company, we got a joint called '12 Minutes,' " he revealed. "I'm a father, I have a son, but I never met him. I'm on death row, and the last day before they execute you, you get a visit by the pastor and you get a little time with your wife and your mom. On this last day I get to meet my son. We get an hour or so to say hello and goodbye. It's gonna be some deep sh--, a lot of flashbacks of what it took to get me in this position."

Snoop Dogg's Brother-in-law reportedly found dead

From Launch.com. Jermaine Fuller, who is reportedly Snoop Dogg's brother-in-law, was found dead Tuesday (August 13) morning in a Las Vegas apartment, according to Associated Press.

Fuller barricaded himself in the apartment after having an altercation with a police officer that resulted in two shots being fired and the officer being wounded.

Police were investigating Fuller's cause of death.

Snoop's attorney David Fox told AP that Fuller was the brother of Snoop's wife, Shante.

"The family is grieving over this sad news," Fox told AP.

The police approached Fuller after 11:20 p.m. Monday (August 12) when an unidentified man stopped a Las Vegas police officer to complain that he had been confronted by another man who shot a gun.

The officer and Fuller got into a scuffle, and two shots were fired. The officer was shot in the chest, though protected by his bullet-proof vest, and a bullet also grazed the side of his head.

An officer in a patrol car was not injured, but a bullet hit the radio microphone attached to his shoulder.

Fuller reportedly fled the scene, running into an apartment where he made a forced entry. He took a hostage, who later escaped through a window.

Lt. David O'Leary told AP that Fuller was found dead at 10:41 a.m. Tuesday (August 13), when the police SWAT team entered the apartment.

Police said they heard Fuller moving around the apartment at 8 a.m., but had last spoken to him at around 4:40 a.m.

Snoop's spokesperson Courtney Barnes of the Courtney Barnes Group said he could not reach Snoop and therefore could not confirm any details.

Snoop reportedly spoke to Las Vegas police negotiators at the scene when Los Angeles Country Sheriff's deputies went to Snoop's Diamond Bar, California home. Snoop did not, however, speak to Fuller.

Snoop's album, Welcome To Tha House Vol. 1, was released Tuesday (August 13) on Snoop's Doggy Style deal through MCA Records.
