Born Aaliyah Haughton in New York (1979). Aaliyah was raised in Detroit singing for many school and church venues as a child. By age 11 Aaliyah had gotten a back up singing gig with Gladys Knight in Las Vegas. While still attending high school Aaliyah made her first platinum album with her solo debut "Age Aint Nothing But A Number" in 1994. Aaliyah then went on to marry her producer R. Kelly and shortly after in 1996 released her second album "One in a Million" featuring Slick Rick and Treach. In 2000 Aaliyah made her movie debut with actor/martial artist Jet Li in "Romeo Must Die" and featured four songs on the soundtrack. Then in 2001 her third and final album titled "Aaliyah" was released. That same year on August 25th, 2001 at the age of 22 Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas leaving the video shoot to her hit song "Rock The Boat". The Hip Hop community moarned over the death of this young talented singer who's life was taken early."She will live on through her music and forever be in our hearts." |  | |||||
