Violence at Party

When Canibus walked into the album release party for his record 2000 B.C. around midnight last night (July 17) at New York City's club Aria, he probably didn't expect to be greeted by a flying fist. A source that attended the event spoke with a bouncer who wished to remain nameless. While nothing has been confirmed, the bouncer told a Hookt.com source that Canibus was allegedly beat up and stomped out upon entering the venue after someone apparently yelled, "there's Canibus" as the MC walked through the thick crowd. Harlem World's Blinky Blink allegedly snuffed Canibus with a swift punch to the face. Blink's punch set off a brawl throughout the club, and several patrons fled the nightspot trying to avoid the random violence. Our source also told us that someone grabbed a glass-encased candle from the bar and allegedly struck Canibus on the head. Reportedly, the club's security was extremely lax. Word has it that Blink (who is Mase's brother) was joined by fellow Harlem MC Cam'ron and several others. Consequently, Canibus dissed Blinky Blink on the track "Die Slow" from his sophomore album, 2000 B.C., which was released today. A publicist at the battle MC's label, Universal Records, would not go into detail about the incident, but told Hookt.com that Canibus was injured pretty badly during the melee. Several people waiting outside, including Biz Markie, were denied entrance to the club as security tried to restore order inside. The party, which was deejayed by DJ Max Glazer and Doo Wop, was also attended by Special Ed and Dinco D of Leaders of the New School.

Hookt.com called the 10th Precinct in Manhattan for more information but police were uncooperative. We will have more on this story as it continues to develop. The Universal publicist also told Hookt.com that despite last night's violence, this Thursday's second album release party for Canibus' 2000 B.C. at New York City's club Chaelra will go on as planned.Canibus is no stranger to controversy, as his disappointing yet gold-selling debut album, Can-I-Bus, featured the track "Second Round Knockout," a song dissing hip-hop legend LL Cool J. Most recently, Canibus has come under fire from former cohort Wyclef Jean, who Canibus accused of "spoiling" Can-I-Bus, on which the Haitian-born artist executive produced.
