Our Summer Get Together

The 1998 Summer Hummer

The Summer Hummer is the annual summer get together for the Iota Alpha chapter of Kappa Delta Rho. All active brothers, alumni, and their significant others are invited to this 3-day picnic in the woods. This year is the 17th consecutive season we've gathered together on the last full weekend of July for some serious fun, sun, and festivities. The Hummer is a BLAST! It allows the actives and alumni to meet and mingle. Brothers who haven't seen each other in several months or even several years get to hang out, catch up, and party a little bit. Many of the alumni attempt to act their old college selves only to be out done by the actives. All in all, it's pretty much three days of craziness in the woods. The '98 Hummer turned out great - we had over 85 brothers and 20 female guests in attendance. As usual, the festivities included camping out, swimming in the creek, an old fashioned guitar-bongo drum jam session, dancing around the bon-fire, a catered meal on Saturday, and a bunch of interesting characters walking around until all hours of the night. It kind of reminded me of an Aborigine Harvest Celebration that I saw in Anthropology 201. During the day on Saturday, we held several tournaments, including: · Volleyball · Boccee · Horseshoes · Euchre The champions for most of the tourneys are still under dispute. So as it stands, we can't post the names of the champions who own "THE BELTS". Par for the course - fun was had by all.

The following pictures will attest to that…

The Hummer is a great tradition that many of us look forward to every year. Hope to see you at the 18th Annual Summer Hummer next year!
