May 4, 1940-The keel of the Shinano is laid down in the Yokosuka naval yard.
December 12, 1940-The construction of the Shinano is halted.
1942-The plans for building the third Yamato-class battleship are cancelled. Instead, the Shinano would become a carrier.
October 8, 1944-The Shinano is launched.
November 19, 1944-The Shinano is commissioned.
November 29, 1944-While en route to be fitted out, the carrier Shinano is attacked by the USS Archerfish and sunk due to an incomplete damage control system, lacking most of the watertight doors.
