This page is dedicated to Bill Maples; father, innovator, professor, web designer, and aneurysm survivor who erected the Aneurysm and AVM Support website in 1995 for other survivors of aneurysms and AVMs. His network of aneurysm and AVM patients extended from coast to coast and abroad to several countries. Dr. Bill passed away on December 27, 2007, from cancer. Those who knew him will miss him greatly; those who didn't, missed meeting a modest, intellectual man who loved life and people. He was our mentor, our strength and our biggest supporter.

What do you see, when you look at me?
Just another avm, that's labeled "grade 3"
If that's what your thinking, if that's what you see,
Please look again, because that's not all "me".
IM a mother, wife, daughter and IM a nurse too,
I touch people's lives, just like you.
So many problems, this "brain stuff" so new,
I have so many questions, I think you would too!
How would YOU feel if this had happened to you?
You hold up my CAT scan, diagnosis "it's fine"
And then abruptly add "it's all in your mind".
"im busy today, got other patients to see"
Once again, you haven't seen "ME".
When you sit at your desk, write a bill for your fee,
I hope you remember "you still haven't seen ME"
You claim so proudly "I saved your life",
but please ask my husband if Im the same wife.
And please look at my kids when they want to play,
I have to tell them "mom's just not right today"
Once you have done this you will truly see ME,
It isn't so pretty I hope you can see.
The next time you operate I pray that you see,
The person on that table could be you, and not ME

This page is dedicated to my cyber friends who support our group so willingly. It is dedicated to those patients with a congenital birth defect called an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) as well as all of the aneurysm patients throughout the world. Amazingly, there are only approximately 3 out of 10,000 of the population born with an AVM (.03%). I have included hyperlinks on information available on the web including an Aneurysm and AVM Support Page, information on AVM's, Aneurysms, Strokes, Brain Surgery and more.
