I DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE BEST TO LEARN JAPANESE WORDS USED IN SHOPPING SITUATIONS, GIVEN THAT I GO INSIDE SHOPS EVERY DAY, AND JAPANESE SHOP STAFF TEND TO SAY THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Therefore, if I learn certain key words and phrases, I can then repeated every day, and I will soon memorise them.

So the word for today is 他, also written 外, pronounced "hoka", which means "another". As in, 他に何かご入用ですか？ -- hoka ni nanika goiriyou desu ka? -- "would you like something else?"
