Do you remember a time when you used to reach for the volume knob on your stereo right before the best part in your favorite song? You’d be sitting right there in your favorite spot, with everything you need right there, your mind wandering in and out of the music, and no distractions. Simple. I remember those days, yet, they seem so far away sometimes. Life is so busy now, it’s hard to find the time to sit back and relax…right? What if that isn’t the case though? What if deep down inside all of us are yearning for that experience that we once knew? What if the reason isn’t because we are too busy? What if the reason is because we don’t have any reason to sit back and relax to our favorite album anymore? That could be true, be the real truth is we all have plenty of reasons to sit back and enjoy our favorite music, and furthermore, we don’t even need a reason. The urge alone to do it is enough. So why aren’t we? Lets take a look at what it’s like listening to your favorite album now compared to a few or more years ago. Way back when, you’d grab your favorite vinyl, cassette or CD, navigate to wherever your sound system is located, physically place the album into the device that plays it, and then you’d turn on your system, turn a few knobs, find somewhere comfy to relax and then let the album take you away. These days, I’ll open up my phone, click on my music app, watch an ad or two, get distracted by a text message, doom scroll a bit, then open up my music app again, scroll for an album, watch another ad or two, then try to hook it up to bluetooth a few times, then listen to the playback on a tiny pill sized box that sounds tiny and boxy and lifeless and sounds better the quieter it is. ….? What Happened? Something else that’s different today is you can’t go into a store and check out all of the cool big stereo systems anymore. The stores don’t exist. The displays aren’t there. The systems don’t even exist anymore, not like they did back then. Back in the day, great companies were really trying their best to innovate and make beautiful products that felt as good to operate as they sounded. They sounded better the louder they were. It was fun to interact with them. The sound systems back then made the music you love better. Another truth is that it doesn’t matter how we got here, all that matters is what we do next. |
