Kathleen's Brief Biography

Kathy was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan May 26, 1949 the first child of Wes and Barbara Miller. Her childhood was nomadic, but not unhappy., as she had a loving, if unconventional family. Before Kathy was fifteen, her mother would be divorced twice and married thrice, heading further west with each marriage until the family was in the Los Angeles area of California. As the eldest of a family of five children, a brother, two half brothers, and a step sister, Kathy learned responsibility quickly. She also learned to read.

Kathy was a prolific reader and seemed to always have a book in front of her face. At the table, on the couch, everywhere you looked, there was Kathy reading a novel. Dad was a teacher, and each summer we would travel with him by car through most of the country. And where was Kathy as we drove mile after mile around this country??? In the back seat of course.--reading.

She was an honor student at Westchester High School and a favorite of all her teachers. (As the brother who followed her at Westchester, I'll have to say that I tired of hearing, "Oh, you're Kathy's brother..." ) From there she became a Comparative Literature major at Long Beach State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She finished her education at UCLA Law School.

Having raised three brothers, it seems appropriate that Kathy would have three sons, very active nephews who can wear out an uncle no matter how youthful he thinks he is.

After years of practicing labor law at the Orange County Employee's Association, Kathy started writing her own novel. It is a historical novel sitting in manuscript form under her bed where even the dust bunnies ignore it. After a few attempts to get it published, she chose to start writing historical romance. Many Fires was well received as was her second book, Out of Eden.

Having met all of her personal goals, Kathy chose to move back to the Midwest to the small town of Teutopolis, Illinois. The family moved there two years ago. Out in the country, free of the distraction of the pressures of being a lawyer so she can write full-time, I am certain her writing will be all the better.

Her third book, Heart of Alaska, will be out in October 1997. It's a love story set in California and Alaska; in the end the girl gets the guy and the ranch. (She likes books in which the girl gets the guy and the ranch.) She's a wonderful writer, with a knack for making happy endings out of unlikely situations (kind of like her own life, I think). So if that kind of book appeals to you, go out and buy , Heart of Alaska. You will enjoy her writing, I promise. Besides, if she makes enough money, she promises to buy her brother a Porsche.
