THE YOUNG WRITERS WORKSHOP
WRITE BELIEVE ACHIEVE--15th Anniversary!!!! JUNE 25 through JUNE 29, 2013 Southern Illinois University CarbondaleThe fourteenth Young Writers Workshop was so much fun we just have to do it again! We wrote, we laughed, we ate bad food--I can't wait to do it again. Next year will be our FIFTEENTH year! If you'd like to join us next year for the fifteenth annual Young Writers Workshop, please write me or the Division of Continuing Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. We'll put your name on our mailing list. Here are the details: What: The Young Writers Workshop, a five-day residential program for writers aged 15-18 (high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors), featuring daily poetry and prose writing classes, readings by faculty and participants, and panels on special writing topics. When: June 25-29, 2013, on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Carbondale, IL 62901. Carbondale is two hours southeast of St. Louis, Missouri by car, and six hours south of Chicago, Illinois. How much?: $350 for room, meals, all materials, and instruction. Commuting students get meals, materials and instruction for $320. Do I have to submit a writing sample?: Yes, three poems or three to five pages of prose (story or essay). The writing sample does not determine admission, but helps us to know what group--the poetry section or the prose section--you'll be in during the Workshop. Samples are also used to determine our scholarship winners--so no separate scholarship application is necessary. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, not financial need, and result in a reduced tuition cost for the workshop. How do I sign up?: Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, with enrollment limited to 30 students. Contact the Division of Continuing Education: Website: http://www.dce.siu.edu (look for online registration in March 2013) Sincerely,
Allison Joseph
