Angel Moms

My Angelmoms

When I first moved to Chicago, just days after Devin passed,I had very few friends here. I had a friend who had a computer, and was taught the basics. The rest I learned by trial and error.

I was really in a dark place, and knew I had to rebuild my entire life. Not only had my only child left, and robbed me of the only thing that I felt any self worth from anymore, but I also had years and years of "emotional baggage" to try and come to terms with in other areas of my personal life. So the healing was needed in many areas. And still I have a long way to go.

It was suggested to me that I look up "grief" on the internet. Funny, I was so computer illiterate, yet somehow managed to find a few message boards dealing with the subject. I explored them. From there, I found I bonded with several moms in particular. Ones who had also lost a child. Before I knew it I was invited in to a private email group of grieving moms by my friend Linda, from Philly. Linda had JUST lost her only son, who was 3. (He died instantly from a brain aneurysm as they were playing together..) I was welcomed with such loving and open arms. Soon I had "adopted" my new "angel neices and nephews" , and we called ourselves "Angelmoms". It stuck. This was over 2 years ago.

Over time, our group has changed a bit, but now is very stable. We are truly sisters. We love. We trust. We cry. We grieve. We laugh. We have even had a few silly "squabbles" over time, just as sisters do!! But it all only made us stronger, and continues to do so today.

We even met in Las Vegas and had newspaper coverage of our trip. (Chicago Tribune, Feb. 99).We have also met in smaller groups on several occasions, like in Houston, California, all over!

One of the angelmoms has become a real gifted website master! Her name is Judi Walker. Judi will do anything for anyone, and expect no recognition. In fact, although this website is designed by me, it is Judi that is able to put it all together to make what is in my heart show up visually. Thank you Judi I love you so much.....

We as a family, manage to keep ourselves glued together. And you cannot imagine the myriad of emotions that we each go through , all at different times. It is amazing. I truly feel these angels are MY angels too. If it were 4 a.m. and I needed to scream, cry, or talk, I know for sure I would have any one of them to listen...to make time for me. These women are not only my cyber friends. They literally are my dearest friends. Our angels brought us together for a very specific reason. I want to take the time to tell each and every one of them how much I love them And for those of you who grieve, please make an effort to start your own little email groups. You will not believe what can transpire......

Thank God for my Angelmoms!!!

Angel Moms

We have shared our tears and our sorrow,
We have given encouragement to each other,
Given hope for a brighter tomorrow,
We share the title of grieving mother.

Some of us lost older daughters or sons,
Who we watched grow over the years,
Some have lost their babies before their lives begun,
But no matter the age , we cry the same tears.

We understand each others pain,
The bond we share is very strong,
With each other there is no need to explain,
The path we walk is hard and long.

Our children brought us together,
They didn't want us on this journey alone,
They knew we needed each other,
To survive the pain of them being gone.

So take my hand my friend,
We may stumble and fall along the way,
But we'll get up and try again,
Because together we can make it day by day.

We can give each other hope,
We'll create a place where we belong,
Together we will find ways to cope,
Because we are Angel Moms and together we are strong!
