Time for a letter to IEPA regarding Reliant power plant

Arguments to use:
  1. Reliant plant could satisfy air conditioning needs of 300,000 households - 1 million people - while projected growth in both DuPage and Kane counties is 270,000 people over the next 20 years - the size of the plant is not compatible with the local needs for the electricity.
  2. IEPA advocates that control over siting and number of peaker power plants should rest in the hands of towns or counties - neither Aurora nor DuPage county had any regulations established prior to Reliant's acquisition of Butterfield area. Work on the regulations began only very recently. We, citizens, were not protected due to the logistic loophole in the deregulated system.
  3. 16,000 MW of additional generation capacity are already proposed in Illinois, and many more power companies are descending on this market. Majority of the plants go in unchallenged. There will not be any power shortages in any forseeable future!
  4. 16,000 MW constitutes 50% increase in the state's capacity. Capacity additions of this magnitude will adversely affect the air we breath, our health, quality of life, and will cumulatively degrade the environment. We don't want to bear these costs, while the companies profit and sell electricity to the whole Midwest.
  5. DuPage county air is already among 20% worst in US, with ground level ozone exceeding safe limits dozen of times.
  6. We would like to support energy efficiency and renewable energy sources - these don't pollute and don't bankrupt the environment.
