IT HAS TO DO WITH FATHER’S DEATH-Todd & Vicki

This scene shows the tremendous tenderness that Todd feels for his sister, it also reveals who did kill their father and he supports her one hundred percent Todd is back from the dead and is hiding out in Vicki’s attic. Vicki, unbeknownst to her, is being hypnotized by her therapist to hate and kill her son Kevin. Kevin, who has just left brought her flowers, but Vicki in a rage, throws them on the floor and almost slaps her son. She stops in mid air, seeing Todd on the stairs staring at her. She then throws Kevin out and is leaning on the front door totally shattered and completely confused as to her actions. Todd hearing the door slam comes bounding down the stairs.

TODD: What the hell was that about? Don’t tell me the three faces of Vicki are coming out to play again.

VICKI: No. No, it’s worse, much worse than that. Cause this is me. This is just all me, me! Letting my anger go, which is what my therapist told me to do.

TODD: You’re paying a shrink to help you lose control? I could of given you some tips for free.

VICKI: (getting upset) He should not have brought me flowers.

TODD: Oh, yeah, well you know he should never have brought you flowers. If someone brought me flowers, I’d have to rip their lungs out. (Vicki, upset goes past him into the library and kneels down to where she threw the flowers) (Todd crosses quickly after her) Vicki. Look Vicki, look you’re not making any sense here, alright. I think Kevin’s right, why are you getting so upset? Your son brought you some flowers.

Scene break

TODD: (he now is kneeling on the floor behind her, seeing how upset she is, he starts to reach his hand out to touch her shoulder barely, and quietly says) Vicki. Hey. Look Vicki you know you had a little meltdown right, it’s okay, it’s over. You don’t need to pick up the flowers right, that’s what the servants are for. (Vicki breaks down and slowly Todd puts his one hand on her shoulder and puts the other around her neck to draw her towards him in comfort, very uncharacteristic for him)

Scene break

TODD: (quietly, trying to make it light) I haven’t seen a scene like this since you were Nicki and Vicki and Jack and all those people.

VICKI: Yeah, well their all a part of me now aren’t they, that’s what this is all about. And I thought by integrating them I would become one wonderful mature personality. Look at me, a loving mother, a successful business woman except when I go off the deep end and fly into a rage.

TODD: I know all about rage. I guess we have our dear old dad to thank for that.

VICKI: Yeah I forgot I think were doomed I told you, and I have to become this malevolent hag.

TODD: Look....all you did was yell at your kid. I mean, yeah you almost hit him and he really didn’t do anything to make you snap but you held back. You didn’t hit him. You’re way ahead of me. I mean, I’ve...I’ve hurt people but, you could never kill anybody.

VICKI: (chuckle) Oh, boy! Well now there’s something you don’t know about me. Something I did, something unbelievebly awful.

Scene break

TODD: (Vicki sits on sofa and he stands) Well, Vicki what....what’s this awful thing that you did?

VICKI: It has to do with father’s death.

TODD: So what, you danced on his grave. Look if you asked me they should have given Dorian a medal when she killed him.

VICKI: Yeah, well that’s the problem. I always thought Dorian killed him, everyone did. But it’s not what happened.

TODD: What happened?

VICKI: (long pause) I killed him. I killed him. It all came out in therapy last year. (thru tears) I went to visit him in the hospital when he was sick and while I was there...one of the alters, Torrie came out, she smothered him to death. I’m sorry.

TODD: (without missing a beat) Why are you sorry? For having guts?

VICKI: No, for not having compassion.

TODD: (with conviction) He raped you. He molested you for years. He was the destroyer, not you. All you did was pay him back.

VICKI: Todd.....Todd how is it that I was able to do that, huh? Obviously there is a cruel streak in me just like the one you hate in yourself so I guess we really are our father’s children.

TODD: You don’t believe the pep talks that you give me? You’re the one who doesn’t buy all that stuff about being doomed to be as hateful as our old man....

VICKI: Then where is all this anger coming from? My therapist, he’s supposed to be helping me get better, he’s not! I’m getting worse! You saw what just happened, I’m screaming, screaming at my son! Totally out of control, I was going to hit him!

TODD: (stands, crosses, waving his arms in helplessness) Look.....I don’t know right....Look I’m not....Vicki I’m not gonna lie to you...I don’t...I don’t feel like I can give advice, I mean my life is screwed up, look at it. But I know...I know one thing, I did something right! I had a kid and this beautiful daughter that I’ve been away from for so many months I’m getting to know her now and Vicki I can’t tell you what it felt like....inside, to hold her in my arms.(crosses his arms as if to hold his daughter and says with such tenderness and love in his voice) And you can’t tell me you don’t feel the same way about your kids.

VICKI: I always thought I’d love my children, so what’s happening to me?

Scene break

TODD: (he crosses and sits on the arm of the chair) All I’m trying to say is that when I saw my daughter, for the first time, I felt a bond that will never be broken. And that was just for five minutes, Vicki. I mean it has to be the same for you and Kevin only the bond has to be stronger because you’ve been together all these years.

VICKI: I do love him. Oh god, I love him so much! Maybe that’s why I’m so disappointed in him, I mean I know basically he’s got a good heart, (working herself up to anger again) but he’s so thoughtless, he makes me so angry! (doorbell rings) Dammit!

TODD: You expecting somebody?

VICKI: No, but I wasn’t expecting anyone earlier either.

TODD: (dryly) Doesn’t anybody ever call you first?

VICKI: Just stay here, I’ll get rid of whoever it is. (she closes the library door to go answer the front door)
