Feminalia are basically breeches intended to be worn in cold weather.  They are made out of all types of fabrics, however they are also used by mounted cavalry.  When employed by the cavalry, Feminalia are usually made out of leather, and function much like modern day chaps.  Despite what the name makes them sound like, they are worn by people of both sexes. Let me repeat that, feminalia are not pants for women. Like breeches they look like short pants, coming down just under the knees.  The roman soldier, on the recreated gravestone above is wearing a excellent example of feminalia from the later Imperial period.
