    The Mesopotamian civilization was from 2000-600 B.C.  Mathematics started in 3000 B.C.
 
    Babylonia was located by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This area is now known as Iraq. The city of Babylon was where Al Hillah, Iraq is now. Babylon was the capital of Babylonia and is not far away from the capital of Iraq. Mesopotamia had many small kingdoms including Babylon. The area between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, now is eastern Syria, southeastern Turkey and most of Iraq.

    The Babylonians provided the first form of writing, a set of laws and studies in
mathematics, astronomy, and other sciences.
