Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not yet seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing you may have life in his name. John 20:24-31

I can understand where St.Thomas is coming from... I have been there. But, unlike the doubting saint, I did not have the opportunity to place my fingers in the Risen Lord's wounds, to feel his flesh or hear his voice. My encounter with the Risen Christ took a more circuitous and convoluted path... my response though was the same as Thomas'. When I finally recognized him in the midst of my life I too proclaimed "My Lord and my God".

I started out as a "cradle Catholic", left the Church in my teen years, converted to Judaism as an adult when I married a Jewish man. My children were born as Jews and raised in a non-observant, secular Jewish home for nine years, until their father and I divorced. We have always lived in the midst of a heavily Jewish community. My journey back to the Catholic Church began when my eleven year old daughter, unlike her brother who had just been Bar Mitzvahed, decided she wanted to be baptized as a Christian rather then attend Hebrew school and make her Bat Mitzvah. She was baptized in a Protestant church where we attended services for awhile. We "sampled" a couple of other Protestant denominations but, regardless of how wonderful the sermons were or how kind and supportive the fellowship, after a period of time I alway ended up feeling like "something" was missing. A year ago I returned to the Catholic Church and had what my Protestant brethren would call a "born-again" experience. I am a new creation... Praise the Lord!!! This past year I have seen the Holy Spirit not only renew my life but also my family. In answer to my prayers He has touched the hearts of my husband and daughter. Both of them have attended RCIA and will soon be received into the fullness of the Catholic Faith. Also, my grown son, a non-observant Jew has begun inquiring and has attended Mass with us.... God is AWESOME!!!

These pages chronicle my journey to the truth and my birth as a believer and a devoted disciple of Jesus of Nazareth. I hope that you, too, will be touched by the awesome power of His love.
