STUDENT SECTION


Welcome to The Odyssey!  You are now part of Odysseus's crew as they return from their battle with the Trojans and begin their battle to return home to Ithaca (Greece).  There are three projects below which will help you to better understand and enjoy the The Odyssey.  You will be using the internet to gather information to successfully complete the projects.

Each project provides you with the instructions for its completion.  In addition, located in either the lesson plan or on the The Odyssey home page are links to most of the information you will need to successfully complete the projects.  There are also interactive quizzes created to challenge your knowledge of The Odyssey. To choose a project click on any of the underlined lesson plan sections located at the bottom portion of this page.  Each section provides a brief description of the project.

Before beginning any project, check to see whether your teacher has any additional instructions.

LESSON 1
MYTHOLOGY

Using the internet you will search for information to identify and describe the characters in The Odyssey.  Is the character a human, a god, a supernatural being, or a dog? The more you understand the characters the more you will understand the story of their lives and their adventures. Try the interactive online quizzes on general mythology and on The Odyssey.
 


LESSON 2
ANCIENT GREEK CIVILIZATION

You are an archeologist investigating Ancient Greece around the time of The Odyssey.  What did Ancient Greeks eat? How did they run their government? Who were their gods? What was their favorite music?  How were battles won and against whom? How did they get around? These questions and others will be answered by you through the use of the internet.  The better you know the world that Odysseus lived in the better you will understand his story. LESSON 3
HOMER'S POETRY
