APRS IS THE ANOTHER THING I WORK WITH, lots of fun, runs stand-alone, does the weather thing, mobil tracking. I use an MFJ tnc with a radio shack 242 for my base station, tied to a Peet Bros. UII weather sys. I also have set up a mobil system for in the field use. My vehicle does stand alone for tracking, there I use a KPC3+ tnc tied to a Radio Shack 212, I feed the GPS info from an Eagle GPS, which is running UIview on a ToughBook laptop, so this allow sending messages. I have many reference sites that I can send to you for more info as to how to set up different systems.
TOPO MAPS, The link I have provided has the best price, $4.00 per 7.5 min. map, (this is what to use). I have purchased maps from this company. Of course you can buy a Topo CD from DeLorme, which in 2007 has built a very good Handheld GPS ________________________________________________________________________________________________
This page will try to supply some of the sources that I use, Club Members and others have asked me what I use to do the things I do, thus I have tried to show some of the better sites that I have used to provide what I use. Of course there are more sites!!!, if you will email these sites to me I will first look at the site then I will place a link to it on this page. Don't send any old site to me , be sure that it is something that others can use, or something that you are using at present.
The list is top to bottom and it MUST be entered in that order.
1=851.1875, this is the control freq. 2=853.3875, 3=852.2875, 4=858.5875, 5=856.5875, 6=857.5875, 7=856.7375. As of late 2006 there where changes to the TC Edacs Freqs. These are listed below 860.0125, 854.0625, 854.3125, 858.5875, 859.5875, 857.5875, 860.5875, 855.6875, 859.0125, 860.9125, 856.0125, 857.0125, 858.0125 The above is just FYI, but may help if you can not find the freqs. Many Frequencys can be found at http://www.radioreference.com, even the new StarCom 21 information for the new scanners.Austin Amateur Radio still sells the VX150 Radio for $119.95, but I use Comercial Vertex Radios, they truly work better than Amateur Radios, and this is legal.
