Rockin' the Boathouse.
Home | Back to '01

Show details:

Attended With: Jenn. She tipped me off that she show was free, and I guess we were dating at th time, and it was a good time.

Venue: The Boathouse, Hampton, VA.

Opening Act: Clem Snide. They were like emotionally charged pop for dorks. I, being an emotionally charged dork, thought it was cool. Plus, the bass-less instrumentation was interesting.

Highlights: Rockin' the Suburbs is one of my favorite CDs, so seeing a lot of those songs brought to life with Ben's new band was very cool. I distinctly remember Hiro's Song becoming a favorite, along with Carrying Cathy, Fired, and Gone. Seeing Snuzz rock shit out on his piano/guitar and on background vocals was very nice. The dude always wears cool hats. Biggest highlight was definitely Not the Same. It's my favorite Ben song, and it opened. That was a sweet deal.

Lowlights: Missing Make Me Mommy through the entire encore due to Jenn's parents having a bitch-ass curfew imposed. I mean, it's understandable, but it sucks as a situation when you've got a guy like Ben Folds onstage. That's basically it. The background harmonies were pretty rough at times, but that's to be expected from a new band.
