Myned i Fyny

Gofynais i'r Eginyn gwan

(Myned i Fyny)
Gofynais i'r Eginyn gwan,
  Oedd newydd godi'i ben,
Gan yfed yr awelon iach,
  Ac edrych tua'r nen;
Paham na bai'n boddloni byw,
  O dan y llen yn nghudd?
Atebai yntau gyda gwen -
  "Rwy' eisieu gwel'd y dydd!"

    Y dydd! y dydd!
      Rwy' eisieu gwel'd y dydd!
    Y dydd! y dydd!
      Rwy' eisieu gwel'd y dydd!

Gofynais i ryw Eryr cryf,
  A hedai uwch fy mhen,
Gan frysio'n mhell oddiwrth y llawr,
  A threiddio fry i'r nen;
Paham na bai'n boddloni byw,
  Yn mhlith y coed a'r dail?
Atebai yntau, gan fyn'd ffwrdd -
  "Rwy' eisieu gwel'd yr haul."

    Yr haul! yr haul! &c.

3 Gofynais i Bererin llesg,
  A deithiau trwy ei oes,
Ar hyd y rhywiau geirwon, serth,
  Gan grymu dan ei groes;
Paham yr oedd ar daith o hyd?
  Pa beth a geisiai e?
Atebai yntau yn y fan -
  "'Rwy' eisieu myn'd i'r Nef!"

    Y Nef! y Nef! &c.

(Going up)
I asked the weak Shoot,
  Which had just raised its head,
While drinking the healthy breezes,
  And looking towards the sky;
Why it would not be satisfied to live,
  Under the curtain hidden?
It answered with a smile -
  "I want to see the day!"

    The day! the day!
      I want to see the day!
    The day! the day!
      I want to see the day!

I asked some strong Eagle,
  Which would fly above my head,
While hurrying far above the ground,
  And penetrating up to the sky;
Why it would not be satisfied to liv,
  Amidst the wood and the leaves?
It answered, while going away -
  "I want to see the sun."

    The sun! the sun! &c.

I asked a weary Pilgrim,
  Who had travelled throughout his age,
Along the rough, steep hills,
  While bowing under his cross;
Why he was on a journey still?
  What was he seeking?
He answered in a while -
  "I want to go to Heaven!"

    Heaven! Heaven! &c.
