Plant y Beibl

Mae llaweroedd o benodau

(Plant y Beibl)
Mae llaweroedd o benodau,
Yn y Sanctaidd Ysgrythyrau,
Yn rhoi hanes ymffygiadau,
    Plant yn caru Duw.
Ac fe roed yr holl i lawr
Er ein haddysg ni yn awr,
  Fel y caem ein hadeiladu
  Ag esiamplau o ddaioni,
  Ac i'n cael i efelychu
    Rhinwedd o bob rhyw.

Joseph sydd mewn modd neillduol
Yn esiampl o fab rhinweddol,
Ofni'r ydoedd yn wastadol
    Bechu'n erbyn Duw.
Fe oedd haffof fab ei dad,
Ac am hyny gwnaethpwyd brad,
  Gan ei frodyr creulon-galon,
  Er gwrthweithio ei freuddwydion,
  Felly gwerthwyd Joseph tirion,
    Draw i'r Aifft i fyw.

Ond er pob-peth a'i cyfarfu,
Er ei demtio a'i garcharu,
Er i Pharoah ei ddyrchafu
    'N llywydd yr holl wlad.
Pan mewn adfyd tywyll du,
Neu mewn hawddfyd dedwydd cu;
  Wrth ei grefydd yr ymlynodd,
  Iaith ei fam a ffyddlon gadwodd,
  Gonest, geirwir, llariaidd ydoedd,
    Ofnodd Dduw ei dad.

Samuel anwyl-fab Hannah,
A wrandawai air Jehofa,
A Josiah brenin Juda,
    Geisiai Dduw ei dad.
Obadiah ofnai Dduw,
Daniel er ei glod bu fyw.
  Timotheus yn fachgen ddysgai
  Burian eiriau'r Ysgrythyrau.
  Cerdded byddom yn eu llwybrau,
    Dilyn ôl eu traed.

Ond o bawb y bachgen Iesu,
Oedd yn mhob peth yn rhagori;
Perffaith oedd yn mhob daioni;
    Ni wnaeth ddrwg erioed.
Pan yn fachgen gyda Mair,
Dwys egrydai'r dwyfol air.
  I'w rieni ufudd ydoedd:
  Purdeb hynaws a hynododd
  Ei holl eiriau a'i weithredoedd -
    Moliant iddo boed.

(Children of the Bible)
There are many chapters,
In the Holy Scriptures,
Giving a history of behaviours,
    Children loving God.
And the whole was put down
For our education now,
  That we might get built up
  With examples of goodness,
  And our getting to emulate
    Virtue of every kind.

Joseph is in a particular way
An example of a virtuous son,
Fearing he was constantly
    To sin against God.
He was the favourite son of his father,
And therefore treachery was conducted,
  By his cruel-hearted brothers,
  In order to resist his dreams,
  Thus tender Joseph was sold
    Yonder to Egypt to live.

But despite everything that met him,
Despite being tempted and imprisoned,
Although Pharoah exalted him
    As governor of the whole land.
When in adversity of black darkness,
Or in happy, dear prosperity;
  To his belief he stuck,
  His mother-tongue he faithfully kept
  Honest, truthful, gentle he was,
    He feared God his father.

Samuel the beloved son of Hannah,
Who would listen to the word of Jehovah,
And Josiah the king of Judah,
    Would seek God his father.
Obadiah would fear God,
Daniel for his praise did live.
  Timotheus as a boy would learn
  The pure words of the Scriptures.
  Walking we shall be in their paths,
    Following their footprints.

But of all, the boy Jesus,
Was in every thing excelling;
Perfect he was in every goodness;
    He never did any evil.
When a boy with Mary,
Intently he would study the divine word.
  To his parents obedient he was:
  Genial purity characterised
  All his words and his actions -
    Praise be to him.
