Yr Ysgol Sul

Yn Ysgol Rad fy Iesu gwiw

(Yr Ysgol Sul)
Yn Ysgol Rad fy Iesu gwiw
Y caraf fod tra byddaf byw;
  Gwybodaeth well hon i mi ddŷd
  Na gwybodaethau pena'r byd.

Pe d'wedid wrthyf fod i mi
Anrhydedd byd, pob parch a bri -
  Aur, arian, perlau o bob rhyw,
  Ni byddant ddim
      wrth Air fy Nuw.

Yn Ngair ein Duw yr ŷ'm yn cael
Fod pardwn i droseddwr gwael;
  A bywyd bythol ei barhad,
  A choron hardd mewn nefol wlad.

Tôn [MH 8888]: Yr Ysgol Sul (<1868)

(The Sunday School)
In the Free School of my worthy Jesus
I love to be while ever I live;
  This better knowledge to me comes
  Than the chief knowledges of the world.

If it were said to me that there is for me
The world's honour, every reverence and esteem -
  God, silver, pearls of every kind,
  They would not be anything
      against the Word of my God.

In the Word of our God we are getting
That there is pardon for a bad transgressor;
  And eternally endure life,
  And a beautiful crown in a heavenly land.
tr. 2016 Richard B Gillion
