Breuder Bywyd

Iechyd o'i rym ynoch a droes; - hynod

(Breuder Bywyd)
Iechyd o'i rym ynoch a droes; - hynod
    Ddihoeni mae'r ferroes;
  Poeni 'rwyf 'min pen awr oes;
  Blino ar helbul einioes.

Mal blodeuyn gwyn teg wawr, - yn gwywo
    Dan y gawod bwysgawr;
  Nid yw einioes ond unawr,
  Na dyn i barhau ond awr.

Gwygyn i'w ebargofi - ydyw dyn;
    Hyd ei daith ond gwegi:
  Nid oes braidd einioes inni,
  Awr yw'n hoes - na wariwn hi!

Robert Williams (Robert ap Gwilym Ddu) 1766-1850

(The Fragility of Life)
Health from its force in you has turned; - remarkably
    Languishing is the short life;
  Worrying I am about the final hour of an age;
  Grieved by the trouble of a lifetime.

Like a white flower of a fair dawn, - wilting
    Under the heavy shower;
  A lifetime is naught but one hour,
  Nor a man to endure but an hour.

An insect to be forgotten - is a man;
    The length of his journey but vanity:
  There is hardly any lifespan for us,
  An hour is our age - let us not waste it!
