Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

In keeping with the vampire motif, I give you 1997's 2d platforming masterpiece. In the latest installment of this series, for a change, you dont play a member of the Belmont family (though this can be remedied). Instead, you are cast in the role of the "good" vampire, Alucard, Dracula's do-gooder son. Here to stop his father and his cronies once and for all...hopefully.

GRAPHICS: Though most sprites are small, the numerous enemies are all spectacularly and rather gruesomly animated. Alucard actually moves like a real person, err, vampire.

SOUND: Creepy and orchestral, defininitely stick with you long after you turn the system off.

CONTROL: Smooth and responsive, like every prequel before, though using a sword instead of whip takes some getting used to.

GAMEPLAY: Multiple endings, two quests plus a third "hidden" one (remember RICHTER), plus a plot twist or two adds up to mucho game for the buck. And of course there is Maria...*sigh*

GRAPHICS: 8 SOUND: 10 CONTROL: 9 GAMEPLAY: 9 OVERALL: 9

Done thy sword and cape and prepare for the ultimate undead family feud!
