Very circumspect was this dear Friend in her daily walk and conversation, endeavoring by watching unto prayer to keep a conscience void of offence towards God and towards man. She faithfully occupied the talent committed to her trust, and has received, we doubt not, the blessed reward promised to those who have been faithful even in a few things, and has entered into the joy of her Lord.

Harmon DAVIS
Age: 31

Removed in the prime of life from this state of existence, he was enabled to leave the following most comforting testimony: "My foundation can no man shake, for it is founded upon the immutable rock, Christ Jesus."

The subject of this notice, although not counted among public characters, had endeared himself to those accounted with him by his conscientious uprightness.
Residing for many years in a neighborhood in which but few Friends were settled, he became, perhaps unconsciously, to some extent an exponent of those religious principles peculiar to the Society; and the well filled meeting-house of serious-minded people of other denominations on the day of his interment, is regarded as an indication of the esteem in which he was held.

Elizabeth DAY
Age: 14

Starksboro, Vermont
Daughter of Samuel and Betsy DAY.

Rebecca DEACON
Age: 67

Burlington, N.J.

Huldah B. DEAN
Age: 77
Date of Decease: 9mo. 13 1862
Kingsbury, N.Y.
An Elder. Widow of Caleb DEAN.
In the life and character of this dear Friend, we have a striking evidence of the efficacy of that grace which comes by Jesus Christ. She was not only a consistent believer in the doctrines of the Gospel, but was a diligent laborer in the vineyard of her Lord.
Her faith remained strong during a painful and protracted illness, which she bore with Christian patience and resignation; and at intervals, when strength was afforded, she was deeply engaged to impart counsel and advice to those around her, and uttered many weighty expressions which gave evidence of a preparation for the solemn change.
Not long previous to the closing scene she said, "If my children are not with me during my last moments, tell them that I die rejoicing in the Lord. I feel that my work on earth is done." She was often at the Mercy Seat, and her children, and her Society, and the whole world, were the objects of her prayers; but her most frequent prayer for herself, was, while under deep suffering, that she might patiently wait the Lord's time, and be willing to suffer all His holy will concerning her.
She was ver diffident of her own attainments, and often expressed her unworthiness, saying on one occasion when called on by a friend, "I have been brought very low, but I am now comforted, my Saviour never seemed more precious. He has visited me in a dream, where I saw myself wading in dark and turbid waters, in danger of sinking, but Jesus, with extended arms, and a countenance beaming with love and compassion, rescued me therefrom, and placed me in a pure stream of crystal water, which washed me from the defilements of nature, and then placed my feet upon a Rock. I feel that my sins are more of omission than commission, but they are all washed away in the blood of the Lamb." To a friend she said, "O! be faithful, fight manfully the Lamb's warfare; fear not the cross; the crown lies beyond. I always loved my friends, but never more than now; yes, I can include the whole human family. O! the precious principles of our Society, they will bear the test, they will spread more and more, as Friends are faithful. They have done much already to bring people to Christ, 'The Light of the world.'" She was unable to speak for some hours, though she seemed perfectly conscious until the last, and thus passed quietly away.
The influence of her life, both by example and precept, was such that truth it may be said, she being dead yet speaketh.

Jonathan DENNIS
Age: 54
Date of Decease: 11mo. 15 1862
Portsmouth, R.I.
He left to his bereaved friends a consoling evidence that his end was peace, remarking when near his close that he saw nothing in his way; but it was all in mercy, no merit of his own.

Having sought through the mercy of God in Christ Jesus an establishment on that foundation which cannot be shaken, she was favored to pass the later years of her life in a state of preparation for the final change, and it is believed has realized the fulfillment of the promise, "He that overcometh shall be clothed with the white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life."

She bore her illness with Christian patience, but at one time being restless under severe suffering, her mother said to her, "Dear child, thou canst find no rest;" she with sweet composure replied,

"There's rest for the weary,
In Heaven there's rest,
Gone from earth so dreary
There's a home for the blest."

At another time she remarked to her sister, "Jesus is a tender Shepherd to his dying lambs;" and then repeated the lines,

"Jesus kind Shepherd, stands
With all engaging charms
Mark how he calls his tender lambs
And fold them in his arms"
