She took a lively interest in the First-day School cause which she considered a work of great importance to the rising generation, worthy of the earnest support of every lover of the truth. Her solid deportment and upright consistent walk evinced to those around her, that her mind was fixed on things above, and a growth in the divine life was manifested as years passed over. During her last illness, impressed with the apprehension that she should not recover, and feeling comfortable and peaceful, she could say, "it is all of mercy, free unmerited mercy."

Delilah M. LOSEY
Age: 24
Date of Decease: 1mo. 30 1862
Hamilton Co., Ind.
Daughter of Samuel and Rachel LOSEY.
She was from infancy of a kind disposition and a serious turn of mind, and in 1859 requested to become a member of our Society. She seemed to appreciate in a remarkable manner the necessity of experiencing a change from the "earth, earthly," in order to be admitted to that high and holy communion of spirit with Him who was a "Lamb without spot," an offering for our sins, and said, her "desires and prayers were often raised to the throne of grace, that He who inhabiteth eternity might redeem his church; and that the members of our own beloved Society might feel His holy hand so powerfully laid upon us that we might all be brought to a fresh allegiance to Him, the King of Kings, to renounce the spirit of pride and self-sufficiency, and to a thorough dependence upon Him," adding, "I believe in our present tried condition, the war spirit has too much ascendancy in many hearts." She frequently remarked that "she felt her Saviour to be very near, supporting and bearing up her spirit in every time of need," and although at one time it was her lot to pass through great conflict, lest her hopes were all in vain, yet this trial was not permitted to last long before light again burst forth upon her soul and she said, "All is well," that she was willing and even anxious to go, but desired to wait patiently till the appointed time. As her end drew near, her way seemed remarkably clear, and after bidding the family farewell and expressing a desire to meet them again in heaven, she quietly breathed out her spirit, praising Him who had redeemed her soul from destruction.

Martha LOVEJOY
Age: 70
Date of Decease: 9mo. 6 1862
Raisin, Mich.
Widow of Joseph LOVEJOY.
Her daily walk gave evidence of a constant endeavor to live the new life, which is hid with Christ in God. Towards its close, the sweetness and tranquility of her spirit, and the quietness with which she awaited the final summons, although in extreme suffering, manifested to all around that her end was indeed peace.
To her death seemed to have no sting, the grave no victory.

Mercy LOWELL
Age: 65
Date of Decease: 7mo. 13 1862
Windham, Me.
An Elder.
In early life she departed from the principles of Friends, but by giving heed to the manifestations of the spirit of Truth, became reunited to the Society. She lived in unity and esteem, and was strong in the faith of redemption by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Her last counsel was to "live in peace."

Edward LYNCH
Age: 87
Date of Decease: 3mo. 24 1862
