Hey Alan, How is life in Walt Disney World? I am having a problem getting to directx.com. How can I setup a user name and password to gane access to their site to download the latest version of directx? Your Friend, Robert K.
A:
Hey Rob, Nice to hear from ya,not at Disney Yet, got a week and a half until I'm due there. Going to Key west next week for a vacation beforehand. No problem, here is a link to the newest direct x drivers, let me know if they won't download but i'm pretty sure they will. Did You try windows update? If you can't get to that site try lowering your security to medium and enable all Active X scripts under advanced in Internet Explorer.

Alan,
Web site is looking good.. a different change. I got a question for ya. How do you get the page to scroll without the background not moving? I've seen this on a few pages and I haven't figured it out yet. I looked at your code and see it is front page 2000, but I don't understand the effect. So if you don't mind telling me I'd like to know. If not, I'm sure I'll figure it out..see you at school somewhere
A:
fair enough. Since you already know some things about html...this should be pretty easy for you. You know the "body" tag? Just add "bgproperties=fixed". See pretty easy, the hard part is learning the tags , This is called "watermarking" when using Frontpage, but if you're like I am, then you use both, with a little netscape composer added in the mix.

Alan,
I have been trying to find a way to record mp3's so that I can listen to them on my car stereo, what can I do?
A:
That's an easy one, before you can put a song (in a MP3 format) on a cd, you must convert it to a *.wav format. To do that you need a program to do it for you. The best one I have found is free. You can download it at this site, CDEZ

Q:Free internet question

I was wondering if you could help me out with a free internet service. I've been using freelane by excite and juno, then last month excite went to excite 2.0 and there for my excite icon wouldn't work, so okay no big deal, then all I had to do was download excite 2.0 right? Wrong, when I would go into juno to get to excite to download 2.0 juno would kick me off. Needless to say for the past two days I have been going insane trying to figure out what to. So if you have any suggestions on how I can get excite back or a different internet service I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!! Ange

A: Well Ange'. Your biggest problem is if you can't get on then how can you download? Well if you want to keep excite then you need a backup internet service, and since you can't get on you'll need free software to install, for now I'd recommend bluelight.com(you can go to any K-Mart and they'll give you the software)although I've heard rumor that bluelight is going out of business. So get the bluelight software, signup, get on-line, download the new version of excite, or better yet I'd recommend NETZERO.NET. I hope this helps.....peace

Q:Memory question
Hey Alan, Hope you enjoyed the holidays? Got a question for you. I've been looking at the price of memory and looks like it might be time to get more. I don't know what pc100, pc 133, or fpm stand for... Could you clarify this for me?

A: Easy enough, the last three numbers indicate the megahertz.So...pc100 is 100 megahertz, and pc133 is operating on a 133 bus speed.FPM stands for Fast Page Mode DRAMs.They are currently the most-used category of DRAMs. FPM DRAMs are faster than previous generation DRAMs through the ability to work within a page. And in case you wanna know more.....click here. Hope this helped.....

Q:Background
this might seem like a dumb question, but what is the easiest way to change your background?

A: There is no dumb questions, just dumb answers. The easiest way to change your background is to right click your desktop, left click properties, then browse til you find the one you want.Don't forget to click apply.

Q:Megahertz and gigahertz
What's the difference between megahertz and gigahertz?
A:   The short answer is mega is one million and giga is one billion. Hertz is short for cycles per second. A 500 megahertz processor runs at 500 million cycles per second. Since each operation takes several cycles, a 500 Mhz processor can do something like 100-200 million operations per second. When you're talking megabytes and gigabytes the answer is roughly the same, but there's a slight difference. Computer folks work in binary not decimal. The base unit of measurement is the bit. Get ready for some math here. Eight bits represent a byte. Each bit can hold two values, 0 or 1. Each byte can hold 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 or 2 to the eighth or 256 values. 2 to the 10th is 1024. So a kilobyte is 1024 bytes. A megabyte is 1024x1024 or 1,048,576 bytes. A gigabyte is 1024x1024x1024 or 1,073,741,824 bytes. That's not exactly 1 billion but it's close enough.
