The Chillingham Castle ( Alnwick 10 Miles )
" In the 1200's, Chillingham castle was known as "The home of torturers." It was also described by one priest as " The epitome of evil." That same priest advised his followers to " Be gone from Chillingham castle by night or you will be prey to the darkest forces." The pathway leading to Chillingham is also called " The Devils Causeway." It was along this route that prisoners of the castle walked once they were freed. Just when they thought they were safe, thats when they were executed. * Chillingham castle lies on a small island just 10 miles north of Alnwick. The castle is basically, the only thing on the island save for the wild cattle. The castle has been restored ( except for it's dungeons which are still littered with the bones of it's prisoners and other victims ) and the upper portion of the Chillingham castle offers hotel style rooms, vast gardens and even it's own gift shop. The main attraction is, of course, it's MANY restless spirits. If you wanted to stay at Chillingham for the night you would HAVE to stay the entire night. A private boat takes you to the island and leaves before sundown. To get off the island you would have to wait for the next boat to come get you at the next sunrise. The chillingham castle is also known as the most haunted place on earth by countless psychics, Paranormal Investigators and of course...the locals in Northumbria." D.M.
The LibraryIt's a peaceful room for after dinner relaxation...at least thats what several believed before they met untimely deaths here. As he sat reading, a knife was thrust into the back of a young man. His tormented spirit still looks for an unknown assailant. Several centuries ago, a young woman was poisoned here. Filled with sarrow and pain, she still lingers near the fireplace. The sound of her taffeta dress moving through the room is often heard, accompanied by a musty smell and a gentle breeze as she passes.
The Torture ChamberIn this spot, thousands awaited the most vicious torturer in the history of the Chillingham castle. His name was John Sage. He had a skill for creating the most painful and barbaric devices. His favorite was the cage, in which he would place his victims before lighting a fire beneath them. Sage would watch as, bit by bit, the victim would slowly cook from the feet up. Sage's spirit still returns to Chillingham, and many say you can feel his breath on the back of your neck as you walk the cold corridors. The ChapelThis is now a place of worship. But it was once the castle stable, where unspeakable crimes were commited. Unlike Chillingham's well known torture chamber, which was reserved for extreme forms of punishment, This room was used for more secretive crimes. This is the room where many came and simply disappeared. Hundreds of unsuspecting victims where quietly murdered here. Many who visit this room feel an overwhelming sadness and a bitter-cold chill.
Pink RoomNo one knows his name...no one knows who he was or when he lived. The boy who continues to visit this room, died a mysterious death, His bones buried in a secret passage behind the wall. Sometimes, the unearthly silence is shattered by the cries and moans of a child in pain. Was he placed in the wall, still alive? Or was he murdered and hidden in the wall to conceal a crime? No one knows for sure. He is often seen in this room, emerging from the wall, an eerie, bluish light surrounds him. His face, some say, has no form, no eyes, no mouth. He is known as " Radient Boy."
