This is the Ryan YPT-16. the Y means experimental in the military and the PT means Primary Trainer in the military. This plane was also built as the Ryan ST, ST-A and ST-M. I always liked the looks of the Ryan airplanes, especially the shape of the cowl with the inline Menasco engine and the shape of the large wheel pants. This model is a scratch build from Model Airplane News plans. They were drawn up by Henry Hafke. This plane has a 66 inch wingspan and weighed in around 6 lbs. After I got this plane framed up and sheeted, I sent it down to my Dad in Florida. He covered the fuse in Flite Metal aluminum and the wing and tail in Stits fabric. He also installed an outboard electric motor, esc and servos. I finished the plane up but never flew it. I sold it along with several other planes to a guy from Wabash. Don't know how successful he was with it. It was probably one of my most rewarding builds being 100% scratch built.
