Nodosaurus, one among the famous ones? Nodosaurus is considered to be some of the best known and the best examples to its family. Living in the Jurassic and Cretaceous it was sure to be well protected. With bony nodes, knobs and knots all over, Nodosaurus certainly looked ferocious, but its habits were to feed on plants. For the knots it had, it was named Nodosaurus meaning 'knotted reptile'. Strong beak and teeth is a significance of eating rough cretaceous plants.
If you were a hungry meat eater and was in search of Nodosaurus' for dinner then it would be better if you would go back home. With armour all around its massive body, some of its knobs could grow sharp and as well strong and along with it was a large tail, meant for whipping its predator. If an enemy plunged into sight Nodosaurus would remain close onto the ground and give attacking shots using the whip-like tail, well this would surely make even the hungriest killer run for his life.
As it was said, Nodosaurus was massive, it grew almost 5 metres (16.6 feet) in length and weighed more than 2 tons. Like all the other relatives of Nodosaurus, it too had a small, tiny and narrow head, holding a brain no larger than a chicken egg, but to hold up its large knobs it developed broad shoulders.

Family: Nodosauridae
Sauropelta a late Jurassic dinosaur lived a 100 million years ago. It was a calm, herbivore and defended itself. With nodes, knots, knobs and spikes embedded in its rough skin, Sauropelta was heavy. On a metre long neck grew three large spikes, a very large and strong one just behind its tiny head, and two smaller ones next to it. To hold all these magnificent spikes Sauropelta had broad neck and body. All these spikes were in fact made for defence. Sauropelta was first discovered in Western USA. For the sake of eating plants it had a beak in front of its mouth helping it nibble leaves.
