All real archeologists want to find 'goodies'.

FALSE, archaeologists are in search of more than just gold treasure, but information about the past.

Much of this stereotype exists because archaeologists of the 18th and 19th centuries would be looking for treasure. For some of them archaeology was a pastime. They would make events out of unwrapping a mummy or finding a large statue. They were not so much concerned with the context of the finds and the more banal things around 'goodies.'

Nowdays, archaeology is focused on scientific questions and a conservation ethic. Archaeologist look for clues to the past in any ancient object, even seemingly worthless pot sherds.
