John Spreier
was introduced to John Guadagni by Tim Turner in the
summer of 1983 when they joined a punk bassist
named Jimmy Mulligan to form the Tim Turner Band.
It didn't work out with Tim and Jimmy but
Guadagni turned out to be a long term musical
companion and friend for Spreier. In
the autumn of 1983 they joined with Jon Jelleyman
to form the band Allagash. They
were an audio engineering team for
Maasai's live performances in the eighties. They
began recording as Beta Brunette in the spring of
1984 with John Guadagni on drums and John Spreier on bass,
guitars, keyboards, production, and vocals.
