Verde

"I got a METRIC TON of songs submissions for the Lemonheads comp, but i remember pressing play and "My Drug Buddy" starting up. As the music began i thought it was good stuff, but as soon as the vox kicked in, i realized i was listening to one of those rare things...an artist with the ability to floor you with nothing else but a voice." - Brad Caffeine

verde means green in spanish. green as in mint chocolate chip ice cream. the emerald city. the rolling hills of tennessee. & a sincere debut rock album. say good morning is a snapshot into the world of nashvillian andrea dewese.

after graduating from her texas college in 1997, consequently breaking up her first all-girl rock band, the blue sugars, andie began to play music on her own. with no band & no audience, she four-tracked the songs she was writing in her own bedroom. the thrill of untangling cords, adjusting mic stands, twisting knobs, overdubbing, writing, & singing brought andrea mucho satisfaction, but her habit didnšt leave the bedroom until just recently.

on a whim, she submitted a lemonheads cover to a tribute compilation on new englandšs ultra-lo-fi hello doll records. she chose to credit the song to the band verde because "andrea dewese" just sounded funny to her modest ears. the name stuck, & andrea - the one & only chica behind verde - soon recorded "say good morning".

straight from the bedroom, say good morning captures the acoustic sincerity of a girl and her guitar, as well as the rock-n-roll air-guitar dreams that wešve all practiced in front of the mirror. the ten song album includes songs about thrift store shopping sprees, early morning drives, silver skyscrapers & love, as well as a classic velvet underground cover. how to better describe this record? perhaps one part georgia hubley, one part ben lee, & a double dip of mint chocolate chip.
