Things to know about Drake
Hey everyone this the one and only Drake Price, the jazz cellist. I've been performing and playing cello for about 11 years now. I have always loved and played jazz on the bass but three years ago I decided to use the instrument on which I’m the most adept, my cello. At first jazz was something I did purely for self enjoyment and to take leave from the everlasting task of practicing classical music. But after about 2 months my jazz technique had improved enough for me to try and perform on a stage. Before they heard me play, people and musicians thought that I was naive to try and perform jazz on such a classical instrument. However after my first concert People began to change their thoughts on the cello’s jazz capabilities. The widest range, fastest playability, and most versatile application all belong to the cello making it destined to be a jazz instrument. As I began to play more and more jazz concerts people learned to respect the cello as a viable jazz instrument. The old blues and jazz clubs know me by first name and invite me to play almost weekly. Within my group of peers I am somewhat of a celebrity for being a cellist who is not limited to playing just one style of music. To further make sure that the world will recognize jazz cello I have begun to teach my peers so that they can discover their improvisational talent. In the future, I hope that I will be able to make a big difference in the music world by becoming a world famous jazz performer. I could change the way jazz is thought of and listened too. The combination of my classical training and my jazz freedom would set a new standard for the music industry. Recently, I’ve even been working with a rock band and it has opened my eyes to a whole new realm of musicianship. The instrument takes quite well to the various reverbs, wah-wahs, and effects that are required for performing such music. Basically, I’m just not afraid to try new things, whether it be in music or in life. I would love to start an education institute in the future that specialized in the training of modern string performance ensuring that the world would be able to enjoy our music for generations to come. My ultimate goal is to be remembered as a pioneer and as an innovator.
