All About Nick
"I had a great time, but it put me right off jazz." (on his College degree)
""Nick was already a competent bassist when he started the course, but to his credit wanted to broaden his musical horizons. He was focused and hard-working and knew exactly what he wanted. With hindsight, Nick was the student most likely to succeed in the music business." (a tutor recalling Nick's College days)
So, how did he get into Jamiroquai? A brief history
When Stuart Zender left the band back in the day (1997) Nick rang up Jamiroquai's agents and asked to audition. He also, ironically, had applied for a Jamiroquai Tribute band. When Nick got the job, (competing against the likes of the Spice Girls ex-bassist and more) the tribute band called to offer him an audition, only to be told he was in the real thing. Before Jamiroquai I believe he was a struggling musician. He played in the 11 piece funk band, Funk Assembly which disbanded in 1999.
