Order of Operations
When doing computation (working out arithmetic)there is a priority (level of importance) to different symbols in the problem and that creates an order with which things must be worked out. This order is called "the order of operations".
ORDER {meaning sequence; ie what comes 1st, 2nd, ..., last} OF OPERATIONS {some kind of work to be done; in math: +, - , X, ÷, exponents, roots,...}
- Grouping Symbols: ( ) - parentheses, [ ] - brackets, | | - absolute value bars, / - fraction bars, roots...
- Exponents
- Multiplication / Division (equally important and worked left to right)
- Addition / Subtraction (equally important and worked left to right)
