FOR LOVE OR MONEY 07/01/03
By Wendy Thompson
Q. I didn’t think Kelly would be the one to leave. Did you?
A. At least I don’t have to worry anymore about NBC playing mind games with us in reference to her. Actually, I believe it was a good move, by Rob, to let her go, since she was the least likely to fall for him, and he sensed it. I would have been surprised to see her sent home last week, but things have taken a new twist.
Q. So you think Rob is now after the million.
A. Rob is no fool, he knows what he needs to concentrate on in order to win the money. After this new twist was announced, I feel he must choose the one who is most likely to fall for him and reject the money. I honestly don’t see him falling in love with anyone on the show, therefore; I believe he has joined the competition for the million. The show’s concept might sound good on paper, but realistically, you would have to meet someone absolutely mesmerizing to even consider letting go of the money for a relationship that might not even work out in the long run.
Q. Paige is still in. I don’t know how she does it!
A. I know Paige might come across as believable, when it comes to her “crush” on Rob, but I still think it is all an act. She might like him, but not enough to say goodbye to a million dollars in exchange for a possible relationship with Rob. It is inconsistent with the “entrepreneur” side of her personality. I am certain her well-rehearsed “innocent look” has been highly successful in the past, and has gotten her wherever she has wanted to go. Before, I was almost certain Rob would not choose her to go all the way. Now that his needs are different, it is possible he might have fallen for her act, believing Paige is so smitten with him she will choose him over the money. I don’t know what will happen, but I’m of the opinion a criminal attorney should be able to read people better.
Q. What about Erin?
A. Erin seems like a nice person, but I don’t believe she is in love with Rob. When we are dealing with such a large sum of money, only someone in love would consider turning it down. I don’t believe she is as materialistic as Kelly is, but the money is still more attractive than Rob, as far as she is concerned.
Q. All right, A.T. Who is going to win?
A. Since I know you are going to twist my arm until I give you a name, I tend to lean towards Erin, but it would not surprise me if he chooses Paige, since his ego enjoys all her antics. It is possible Rob might see the light and read through her “teddy-bear” act at the last minute, realizing she is already spending, in her mind, the million. NBC has edited out many intimate conversations and scenes, making it difficult to evaluate Rob’s real relationship with both women. Considering he is not in love with either woman, and neither of them are in love with him, it is a tossup. This scenario reminds me of Joe Millionaire. He wasn’t attractive enough to make any of the women fall in love with him, and he was not in love with any of them either, therefore, his final choice was very difficult to guess. One thing is certain, Rob has to do the "sell" of his life in order to convince either one to choose him over the million.
Q. Thanks, A.T. Next week is the final episode. Stay tuned for last minute comments about the outcome!
