FOR LOVE OR MONEY-2 08/12/03

By Wendy Thompson

Q. First, give me your overall impression of how the show is progressing.

A. I find this show extremely superficial and shallow, much like everyone’s conversation with each other. Everyone’s interactions with the main character are founded on deception, appearances and lies, not a very sound foundation for any relationship. Erin’s speeches during the final ceremony appear to be scripted and stretched to agonizing lengths. Usually, people do not list another person’s negatives, only to turn around and confuse everyone by choosing them anyway and asking them to stay. This can only happen on scripted TV. We don’t see meaningful conversations, or a hint any of the men are beginning to get closer to Erin, or she to them. I also don’t see much passion when Erin kisses any of the men, or vise versa. Everyone’s main thoughts center round the money, including Erin.

Q. Let’s begin talking about Erin.

A.Erin’s main preoccupation seems to be finding out which one is most likely to choose her over the million. I don’t see her talking with any of the men about life after the show. She might enjoy their company, but I do not see much feeling behind her actions, nor in the way she talks to any of the men. I maintain my opinion she is only interested in winning the two million, and possibly jump starting a career in show business. I believe Erin is of the opinion a serious relationship would hinder achieving her goals, and most of her words are said for the benefit of the camera.

Q. I know you thought Greg would most likely be the next one sent home.

A. Greg probably tap-danced his way into the taxi driving him to the airport. He appeared to be loosing his patience with the whole concept, as weeks went by, and was probably relieved to have been sent home. It was apparent, from early on, Greg was not attracted to Erin, and she also realized they did not have much in common. He gave Erin a piece of his mind, right before he returned the ring, but the editing probably left out the best part of the conversation, as usual.

Q. What about Wade?

A. Wade appears to be a nice person. He would probably choose Erin over the money, however, I honestly can not imagine what personal experiences and conversations they have shared which would lead him to develop feelings for her. The only conclusion I can derive at is the editors have left out all the meaningful scenes both have shared. My personal opinion is I have not seen any body language indicating either has developed feelings for each other, although they do enjoy each other’s company.

Q. And Chad?

A. Chad is still a question mark. He appears to be nice enough, but I somehow get the feeling he is a little too overconfident where women are concerned. I honestly can not see him turning down one million dollars for someone he has just met. I might be wrong, but Chad appears to be the type of man who would keep the million, since he can easily find all the women he wants afterwards.

Q. Talk to me about Eric.

A. I honestly do not know why Erin is keeping Eric week after week. I would imagine someone like Erin, who I venture to say is not an innocent damsel, would be able to read people better. He does not come across as someone who is ready for a serious relationship. Eric appears to be very immature and theatrical, and is mainly interested in the exposure this show is offering him and, of course, the million dollars. I still believe he would not choose Erin over the money, and will probably not make it too far ahead.

Q. What do you think about the host?

A. It might be just me, but I don’t even like the host. He has always appeared too cold and distant with the contestants, and would probably do a much better job hosting “Fear Factor”, since all he does is remind everyone of the money. I must confess to missing good old Chris!

Q. Rob finally appeared! What happens next?

A. Rob is the twist to the twist. I can not imagine him winning Erin’s heart. She made it clear, in the first episode, she had not developed any feelings for him. On the other hand, this show has so many twists Rob might end up with Erin in the end. I imagine the producers brought him back for a purpose, therefore; we will just have to patiently await the ending. It would not surprise me if there was a new twist to the twist, at the very last minute, but all this twisting is making me dizzy, so I will just speak with you next week.
