Reflecting

>>I knew it. I was right. I *am* worthless.<< K'dan twisted the sheets around a fist, staring at the folds it created with a complete lack of interest. >>How could this happen to me? I did *not*... no, she couldn't have been flirting with me-- could she?<<

It was hard to think, a runt-- a runt from *Talays*, quite possibly the most maligned Hold in all Southern (among those that had heard of it) -- could have caught anyone's attention. Unless it was some sort of some sort of joke. Raissa had warned him about those once. That women liked to tease men mercilessly.

>>That must have been it.<< He decided finally, and sighed, flopping back against the cot, it creaked noisily. He froze, and, when no one awoke, hazarded closing his eyes. >>But she seemed pretty angry... why?<<

But not even Saith could offer any help; the bronze was half-asleep. >>Besides, she's *way* older than me. I'm a short little fourteen-turn-old....<< And he was the runt of the weyrling class. Maybe even the entire Weyr.

>>Maybe go apologize...?<< Suddenly, he wanted to laugh at himself. A'sher had been right. A dragon did change your outlook on life. When he first arrived, well, no, maybe he was just as cynical. He didn't know.

>>Well, when I see her again, guess I'll go find out what happened. If she doesn't slap me first. And hopefully not while she's holding a big wooden spoon!<< He had met a fate multiple times with angry, ladle-weilding drudges.

>>Yeah, sounds like a plan....<<

Kira mooched about the Weyr. She was upset that she and K'dan weren't really on speaking terms, and embarrassed that her temper had led to it. She thought of K'dan frequently, and felt at fault – after all he HAD spent the majority of the day with her, and she was by no means perfect. She would have liked to seek him out, to discuss her candidacy, and to find out more about dragons, but the thought of possible rejection was inhibiting her. Oh well, if she bumped into him she'd ask, that is if he'd acknowledge her. She sniffed miserably.

She should be doing some of the jobs Jessany had given her, and spending time with the other candidates, so that she'd have a moment to take the littlies swimming this afternoon, but she felt like doing nothing, apart from feeling sorry for herself. Nothing wrong with being a bit pathetic, anyway.
