First Annual Insulator Swap Meet
I began collecting glass insulators in 1963. Since that time my collection has grown to over 800 glass beauties. In 1997, I began adding porcelains, as well as radio strains to my collection.
I've been going to a lot of garage sales, auctions, and flea markets where I've found large porcelain power pieces--four blue ones and five glazed brown ones (which my wife turned into flower pots).
As soon as I take some pictures with the digital camera, I'll add them to this page.
I will be updating this page with pictures of my favorite insulators, go-withs, and links to other resources and general information.
Best places where I've found insulators...
- Insulator shows (Manhattan, Kansas, June 24th)
- Small towns
- Garage sales
- Farmers' auctions
- Hiking
- Flea markets
- Along railroad tracks
- Crown Jewels of the Wire (both the net and the publication)
- Search engines on the net
- Word-of-mouth (friends, neighbors and relatives)
Worst places where I've found insulators
- Antique malls/shops (usually over-priced and not willing to deal)
I've also found other desirable things while searching for insulators like marbles, glass bottles and jars.
Ebay tips
My wife has bought and sold quite a few things on eBay and she has written some tips for my web page. Click here for Page Two!
There is also a new book, EBay for Dummies that has some practical advice for the person who is getting started on the whole internet auction scene.
Thanks for stopping by and if you have any tips, suggestions or great finds, sign the guestbook or send me an email. Be sure to check back again!
This link will take you to a web page in which you can look up the different colors of glass insulators:
If you don't belong to the National Insulator Association, you might want to check it out. The 2000 National (Y2K) show, sale and convention will be held in Bloomington, MN on July 27th - 30th. I have a link to Priceline.com below if you want to name your own price on an airline ticket and hotel room.
I've been subscribing to Crown Jewels of the Wire for about two years now and really enjoy the articles, pictures and insulators for sale. Check it out!
