Rowan performed at Wichita's Century II Performance Hall with the "KU Wind Ensemble" under the direction of John Lynch. We played a jig during the second movement of “Minstrels of the Kells” by Dan Welcher, a new piece commissioned by the Big 12 Band Directors Association. We also played for about 30 minutes in the lobby before the show as people were arriving. This was our second performance with the KU Wind Ensemble, the first being at Lawrence's Lied Center last fall. It was a great honor to be part of such an excellent presentation, and the LONG standing ovation at the end of their concert was an unexpected treat!

Tom May, host of "River City Folk"
Rowan traveled north to record a one-hour performance & interview for the syndicated radio program River City Folk. Although the program operates out of Chicago, the session took place in a recording studio in Omaha. The program was aired over more than 200 radio stations throughout the nation.

Rowan traveled to Wichita, Kansas to perform at their Robert Burns Night celebration. It was sponsored by the Wichita Scottish Society and was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Wichita. They really did it right, including serving the best haggis I've ever tasted. Also included in the evening was an excellent banquet, plus entertainment from traditional Scottish dancers, a bagpipe band, Burns heritage & poetry, and a Celtic harper.

Our Friday night concert was in Jefferson City, Missouri, where our "stage" was the front of the Missouri Capitol Building, with a statue of Thomas Jefferson watching from behind and the magnificant dome as a backdrop. Well over a thousand people showed up for the concert, with families spreading out in the grassy area that formed a natural ampitheater. It happened to be "International Talk Like A Pirate Day," so shiver me timbers if we didn't bludgeon the bilge rats, arrgh... The next day we performed at the Plaza Arts Fair in Kansas City. Smashing weekend!

On Beltane (May Day Eve) we played at "The Gathering of Celtic Tribes" at in central Kansas. Great weekend! Click HERE to view pictures.

Spencer/Rounds Theater, CCC
This concert was my personal favorite since it was at the community college I graduated from in my hometown, Coffeyville, Kansas. The performance was sold out, and the audience was perhaps our most responsive ever. We set a new record for us in CD sales!

As professional musicians, we're prepared to handle a wide variety of dangerous situations. We don't know where this hideous monster came from during a concert in Kansas City, but we certainly know where it ended up. Yum! It tasted like chicken! Here, Marianne quiets the raging beast with violin music while Doug searches for his stun gun.
