Ancient Mesopotamia

The Ishtar Gate in Babylon.  This is the gate to the city that the Hebrews would have passed through during the Babylonian Captivity.

Early Mesopotamia is a jumble of archaeological ruins.  The world Mesopotamia means "The Land Between the Rivers" in the Greek language.  This is the first civilization to develop in the world according to most historians.  Great figures appear in this period of history from the realistic to the fictional.  This area of history is typically neglected in the traditional history classroom, yet is one of the most fundamental eras of human achievement.  This is the first area to develop agriculture, domesticate animals and to organize the building of massive buildings called ziggurats.
