Former band member dies

December, 1997, Former Guess Who guitarist Kurt Winter dies at age 51, from complications arising from an ulcer condition.
On the "Wheatfield Soul" album, Burt sang "Kurt is the walrus." Burt arrived early and alone for Winter's memorial service in Winnipeg. In the funeral home's guest book he wrote, "Never had a better friend."
Winter's other Guess Who pal Jimmy Kale was there, in a dark suit jacket and ponytail.
By the end of the simple, 20-minute ceremony, more than 500 mourners had signed the book, and Kurt Winter had a standing-room only crowd one last time.
In his prime during the '60s and '70s, he was a world-class guitarist, according to Eric Clapton.
Winter wrote Guess Who songs Hand Me Down World, Bus Driver and, in collaboration with Cummings, Clap for the Wolfman, Running Back to Saskatoon, Follow Your Daughter Home, and Share The Land.
