The 924th Military Police Battalion, formerly the Fort Riley Law Enforcement Command, traces its lineage through the Alpha Company (Law Enforcement) to the 207th Military Police Company. As part of the Military Police Corps’ restructuring, Alpha Company recently reorganized to include the Law Enforcement Command headquarters.
The 207th Military Police Company was first activated at Fort McClellan, Alabama in February 1941. In 1943, the 207th joined the fight in the Pacific and saw service in the Fiji Islands, Guadalcanal, the Philippine Islands, and Japan. At the end of World War II, the 207th Military Police Company deployed to South Korea in January of 1946 for occupation duty where it was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Upon withdrawal of US Forces in Korea the unit was inactivated. The unit was reactivated at Fort Riley, Kansas in December 1952, where it served continuously until its inactivation in October 1982.
Alpha Company was activated on 16 October 1982 when personnel and equipment were transferred from the 207th Military Police Company, to establish a Law Enforcement Activity within the US Army Garrison, Fort Riley. Alpha Company served under the 716th Military Police Battalion from its activation in 1982 until the HHD’s deployment to Fort Campbell, Kentucky in June 1996.
Alpha Company now provides the headquarters function for the Law Enforcement Command which was designated on 16 June 1996. The Law Enforcement Command is comprised of Alpha Company, USAG, the 300th Military Police Company, and the 977th Military Police Company.
In 1993, both the 300th and 977th Military Police Companies deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia for Operation Continue Hope. Military Police soldiers saw the fiercest combat since Vietnam in protecting, defending, and providing combat support to the United Nations Logistical Support Command. In 1994 and 1995, both Military Police companies deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Sea Signal. These soldiers provided humanitarian relief and aid to over 32,000 Haitian and Cuban migrants thereby earning the Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation.
In the fall of 1995, Forces Command authorized the restationing of an advance party from the 300th Military Police Company to Fort Riley. The remaining elements of the company joined the Law Enforcement Command at Fort Riley as part of a three company battalion in October 1996.
The Law Enforcement Command was redesignated to the 924th Military Police Battalion, a provisional division MP battalion, in July 2001. This change was in order to properly reflect the role of the military police on Fort Riley.
The 924th Military Police Battalion continues the tradition of providing outstanding law enforcement support to the Fort Riley community and training its companies for world wide deployment in support of combat operations and operations other than war. The Battalion is ready to protect and assist the soldiers, civilians and families of Fort Riley and is likewise prepared to deploy its troops to fight and win our nation’s battles. The soldiers of the 924th Military Police Battalion epitomize the Military Police Corps motto: "Of the Troops and For the Troops."
