George W. Fuller
George W. Fuller was born in Butler County Kentucky on January 4, 1854.
His parents were John H. Fuller and Sarah A. Burres Fuller.
George W. Fuller had two sisters and five brothers.
NANCY FULLER ~ ORLENIA FULLER
MARCELLUS M. FULLER ~ WILLIAM HENRY FULLER
THOMAS D. FULLER ~ JOSEPH R. FULLER ~ JAMES C. FULLER
George apparently lost his mother about the age of 7-8 since she was not listed in the 1860 census
for Butler County, Kentucky even though the rest of his family was listed with the exception of one
sister, Orlenia. I found a birth record for Orlenia, but no death record. I was unable to find what
happened to most of his brothers and his one remaining sister after 1860. It was told by one family
member that the children were given away after the death of their mother.
But I have found no proof of that so far.
When George was grown he moved to Colorado to survey land for the government. He fell in love
with Colorado and stayed on. He met and married his wife in Trinidad, Colorado.
Her name was Palestine Mary Jane Allison. George apparently worked on the Titsworth Ranch
there since his first daughter, Eva Mae Fuller, was born there. They lived in El Moro, Colorado.
which is a small town just east of Trinidad, Colorado. The town itself is no longer there except
for the old school. In the 1960's the "hippies" took over the old town and turned it into a
community of their own. The place became known as 'Drop City'. The 'hippies' are all gone today
but some of their old buildings remain. The buildings were made from old car bodies, mostly the hoods.
I remember when I was in high school going to look at the Drop City. The 'hippies' were still
there at that time and it was something to see. We parked over by the old school house, which
is across the road, and sat and watched the comings and goings. The school, for it's time was
quite large. And even for some of the remaining country schools today it would still be
considered big.
El Moro is where the children of George and Palestine were born and raised.
Their children were:
EVA MAE FULLER ~ LULA MAUDE FULLER
GEORGE HESSLER FULLER ~ JOHN CLIFFORD FULLER ~ EDNA BELLFORD FULLER
George and his family never moved from El Moro while the children were growing up.
Their three daughters and met their husbands in or near Trinidad, and they also raised
their families there. Their youngest daughter died at the age of 16. Their second daughter,
Lula Maude was murdered in what is now a museum called the Baca House. Their oldest
daughter owned and operated a small motel they called the 'Columbine'. We would go to
Trinidad, when I was a child, and stay at Aunt Mae's motel. George and Palestine are
both buried in Trinidad, Colorado.
